NASCAR Cup
February 8, 2019
Obaika Racing has withdrawn its entry for the Feb. 17 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. The team, which had planned to enter the No 97 Toyota with Berryhill at the wheel, issued a statement on Friday, speedsport.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With sponsorship and resources not coming together as quickly as planned for this new, small race team, they are withdrawing from the Daytona 500. The team said in a statement that their odds of making the field were not good enough to stretch their resources. Obaika Racing plans to compete in as many events as they can this season, sponsorship permitting. This comes as a big setback to the team and driver Berryhill.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
In early December it was announced that Obaika Racing would field Berryhill for the full schedule in 2019. He will pilot the team's No. 97 Toyota and run for Rookie of the Year. Veteran crew chief, Dan Stillman, will call the shots from atop the team's war wagon. Berryhill made two starts at the end of last season with this race team, and netted 31st- and 38th-place finishes at Phoenix and Homestead. It was a good trial run for the young driver and team. It was a good opportunity to work out some kinks and set some goals for this season. Berryhill faces slim odds of winning the ROTY, and an uphill battle every week to be competitive with this very new race team.
