One of the more seasoned veterans in the Xfinity Series sets off on his 10th season of racing in this division of NASCAR. Now with 295 starts, Annett is one of the elder statesmen in this racing series. While he didn't scratch the win column in 2020, Annett did harvest a career-best 22 Top-10 finishes during a couple hot streaks he had during the campaign. The 34-year-old JR Motorsports driver has established a statistical base line over the past couple seasons with his level of skill. It would seem that he's pegged for 18-20 Top 10's and a points finish somewhere around 9th-to-10th-place. Considering how young and competitive Annett's surroundings are, it will be a challenge to hold onto these marks. He'll have a new crew chief for the upcoming season in Mike Bumgarner. Bumgarner has 64 starts and four victories of Xfinity Series crew chief experience. He should help Annett to keep racing at a high level.

The JR Motorsports veteran turned in a career-best performance last season in the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro. Annett nabbed his first-career victory with a big win in the season-opener at Daytona. He would ride that wave of momentum and post great results through the first half of the season. Annett would cool a bit in the second half of 2019, but still finish the year with a career-best one win, six Top-5 and 19 Top-10 finishes. He'll be hard pressed to improve on those marks in 2020, but is more likely to turn out a carbon copy of that performance. Annett is in the middle of a multi-year deal with JRM and always has had steady sponsorship from Pilot Flying J. He is a consistent performing veteran driver in a series filled with up-and-coming, yet inconsistent young drivers.

Annett just completed his seventh full season of Xfinity Series racing. He will return for his third season at JR Motorsports in the upcoming year. Pilot / Flying J will again be his corporate sponsor and foot the bill for the No. 1 team. Annett is coming off a disappointing campaign in 2018. He collected only three Top-10 finishes for the season and finished a distant 14th in the overall driver standings of last year. It's certainly not the direction this driver and team want to be going in, but JRM and Pilot continue to fund and field a car for this 32-year-old veteran. While it's difficult to see this driver and team improving very much, it is also difficult to imagine them performing any worse. Annett and the No. 1 team are probably looking at a similar 2019 season, and flat line performance.

At the time of this writing it's expected that Annett and the No. 5 JRM team will return for another season of action in the Xfinity Series. The journeyman driver earned just seven Top-10 finishes with this team last season before finishing ninth overall in the final point standings. Those marks made Annett almost invisible at times during the last year. However, it would seem it was good enough to keep him in the No. 5 Chevrolet for 2018. Annett has a gold-clad sponsor in Pilot Flying J that keeps his efforts and career funded, so he has that going for him. The 31-year-old driver and crew chief Jason Stockert will need to figure things out a bit better in their second season together.

Annett will return to the Xfinity Series in 2017, after a three-year hiatus competing in NASCAR's top division. JR Motorsports signed him to drive the strong No. 5 Chevrolet for the team. Annett brings his sponsor, Flying J, along to pay the bills and fund the team. This should be a pretty good partnership for both Annett and JRM. His last full-time season in the Xfinity Series fetched 17 Top-10 finishes and a fifth-place final driver standings for his old team at Richard Petty Motorsports. Annett certainly has some potential. This is a far better race team than the one he competed with at Petty, so there's some pretty good upward potential for this 163-start veteran.

The HScott Motorsports driver actually had a downturn last season from his rookie 2014 campaign. Annett's average finish dropped by almost three spots and he finished three spots lower in the final driver standings at 36th-place. The No. 46 team will bring the young driver back for another season in 2016 with strong corporate sponsorship by Pilot Flying J. Jay Guy returns at crew chief and team will attempt to rebound under his guidance. All the pieces and parts in place for Annett to succeed and have a much more successful year in 2016. With Hendrick Motorsports supplying the engines, there's good reason for optimism. Annett posted 34 top-10 finishes during his brief Xfinity Series career, so there's little doubt that he can drive well.

Annett surprised in his first year with this new team in 2012. The journeyman driver turned in the best season of his four-year Nationwide Series career in 2012. Annett was held out of victory lane but picked up 17 Top-10 finishes and ended the year a surprising fifth in the championship standings. This team should make some gains in the upcoming season since all the sponsorship, team and crew chief are returning intact. Phillipe Lopez will once again call the shots for Annett and hopefully the two can challenge for the young driver’s first career win in this racing series.
