David Ragan

Ragan is largely retired from racing, but he will run the Daytona 500 and a handful of other NASCAR Cup Series races for Rick Ware Racing in 2022.

Retired from full-time racing at the end of 2019. Ragan does, however, make the occasional odd Cup Series start. He has planned to race in this season's Daytona 500 with Front Row Motorsports. Ragan has fantasy racing appeal in this one start due to his expertise at superspeedway racing, but his impact is limited due to the very light schedule.

The 12-season veteran will saddle up for another campaign with Front Row Motorsports in the coming year. Ragan will once again be paired with crew chief, Seth Barbour, in the No. 38 Ford team. He's coming off one of his better seasons in recent memory. Although Ragan posted just one Top 10 during the year, he improved his consistency and average finishing position around five spots. His 22.9 average finish was his best mark since the 2011 season. That allowed the No. 38 team to finish a respectable 25th-place in the final driver standings. Ragan will attempt to hold onto those gains this season. As NASCAR's top division continues to grow younger, especially in the lower end of the driver field, Ragan's experience will always stand out.

Ragan resigned with Front Row Motorsports through the 2018 season. He'll once again pilot the team's No. 38 Ford in the upcoming season. Last season's three Top-10 finishes and 30th-place finish in the driver standings were good enough to earn Ragan another season with this race team. Although FRM is a multi-car race team, they have been at an equipment and personnel disadvantage when compared to the other multi-car teams in the series. That makes Ragan's 2017 performance even more impressive. Per usual for this veteran driver, the Top-10 finishes all came at the superspeedways of Talladega and Daytona. Ragan's level of skill on the large ovals is undisputed. His two-career Monster Energy Cup Series victories came at these two tracks, so that's something to remember in weekly lineup fantasy leagues.

Ragan saw his career slide into neutral last season. He spent a tumultuous campaign at BK Racing driving their No. 23 Toyota in 2016. For the first time in his 10 seasons of full-time competition at NASCAR's top level, Ragan failed to post a single Top-10 finish in a season. He also finished a career-worst 33rd in the final driver standings. It was a tough season and the two parted ways at the end of it. Ragan will make a homecoming of it in 2017. The veteran driver returns to the Front Row Motorsports team that he competed for between the 2012 and 2014 seasons. Ragan took this stable to victory lane for the first time ever in 2013 with his thrilling upset win at Talladega. He'll pilot the No. 38 Ford this season. At just 30-years-old Ragan has a lot of good racing left in him, so he'll give this small team the very best he can muster.

Ragan was a victim of musical chairs in the Sprint Cup Series last year. While it did give him some great opportunities to race competitively (taking over for Kyle Busch in the No. 18 Toyota and relief driving the No. 55 Toyota of Brian Vickers as well) the lack of team continuity and contractual frivolity has left Ragan a free agent going into 2016. The good news is that this veteran driver has over 300 starts of experience at NASCAR's top level and he has one victory, two poles and 36 top-10 finishes to his credit. This is not just an ordinary resume. Ragan has the skill and experience to be a good driver for any small team that signs him. His name has not surfaced in any rumors, so the watch will continue to see where Ragan ends up. - Ragan rumored to be close to signing with BK Racing in January 2016.

Ragan’s first full season away from Roush Fenway Racing was a bumpy affair. He piloted the No. 34 Ford for Front Row Motorsports and struggled to a 28th-place finish in last season’s final driver standings. Along the way Ragan picked up a couple Top-10 finishes and flexed some muscle, mostly on the super speedway ovals. Ragan will return to this team that seems to incrementally improve each season. He will pair with returning crew chief Jay Guy and hope to build on the team’s chemistry and performance in 2013. At 27-years-old, Ragan has a lot of good racing left in him, and he should hopefully build something good at FRM in the near future.
