Race Preview

After a week off, NASCAR's Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series starts the next round of playoff eliminations this week at Kansas Speedway. Christian Eckes and Todd Gilliland were eliminated from playoff contention in the last race at Talladega, which was won by Raphael Lessard. This week, the series returns to the site of the first double-header race weekend in series history, Kansas Speedway. Those July races were won by Austin Hill and Matt Crafton. Joining those two drivers as the only other winner at this track entered in this week's race is Johnny Sauter, who drove to victory in 2010. Chandler Smith will lead the field to green this week alongside Ben Rhodes with rising star Hailie Deegan making her debut in the series after 25 career ARCA starts.

Kansas Speedway is one of the multiple 1.5-mile tri-ovals that make up the current NASCAR schedule. As with most 1.5-mile ovals, Kansas races often come down to track position and pit strategy. The ability to gain positions on pit road using two-tire stops and capitalizing on restarts can often be the difference maker in races at the circuit. All of the last three series races at the track had a caution within the last 50 laps of the race. That trend means teams will be working to get their driverS within striking position of the lead for the final restarts. Fantasy players should expect to see two-tire stops and teams opting to stay out as long as possible as they wait for those late cautions to appear. Having said that, the trends also favor the championship contenders. The overwhelming majority of Kansas races have been won by drivers starting inside the top 10, with Matt Crafton having started deepest in the field (12th) in his win earlier this season.

In five series starts at Kansas, Grant Enfinger has never finished lower than 11th. Those finishes along with his starting spot of 35th this week makes him a driver with plenty of upside for fantasy players to consider this week. Matt Crafton is a three-time Kansas winner, and one of those victories was in the second race of this season's double-header at the track. He led 23 of 134 laps in that race after starting 12th. Chandler Smith will be making his 10th series start of the season this weekend at Kansas. He presents an appealing option for fantasy players based on his string of three top-five finishes in his last three races, one of which was at another 1.5-mile tri-oval in Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Trevor Bayne will be making his fifth start of the season this weekend. He finished second last time out at Talladega and will start 26th on Saturday. Raphael Lessard finished 16th and 11th in the Kansas double-header earlier this year. He won at Talladega two weeks ago and will be aiming for his sixth top-10 of the season. Hailie Deegan is set to make her Truck Series debut this weekend. She will drive her normal ARCA ride Friday as a warm-up for Saturday's race, too. She has five top-fives and 20 top-10s from her 25 career ARCA starts, making her an exciting prospect for fantasy players and NASCAR.
