Needs new opponent
FeatherweightUFC
September 12, 2023
Pineda is in search of a new opponent for UFC Vegas 80 on Oct. 7 following the overseas arrest of his originally-scheduled opponent Khusein Askhabov, the UFC disclosed via an official statement.
ANALYSIS
The statement just specified that the scheduled bout had been cancelled, though it remains a possibility the company will look to find Pineda a replacement opponent, as the cancellation is no fault of his own. Pineda is looking to bounce back from a loss to Alex Caceres in June.
Next fight booked

August 16, 2023
Pineda is set to face off against Khusein Askhabov at UFC Vegas 80 on Oct. 7, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Pineda, who lost his most recent bout, will look to bounce back against Khusein Askhabov. The 38-year-old American has started off his UFC career 2-2, but he will look to get back above .500 in October.
Toughness on display in loss
FeatherweightUFC
June 3, 2023
Pineda lost to Alex Caceres via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC on ESPN 46 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Pineda had absolutely no business seeing the final bell in this fight, let alone threatening Caceres in the closing stages of the bout. Pineda had a poor first round but made it all back and then some in a strong second frame. Unfortunately for Daniel, he absorbed a body kick from Caceres just seconds after the bell rang for Round 3, and that appeared to severely limit him the rest of the way. There were multiple instances in which referee Mark Smith appeared to be close to stopping the fight due to Pineda's waning inability to defend himself, but he powered through time and time again. Moral victories don't do much for the soon-to-be 38-year-old Pineda these days, especially since he is sporting a 1-2 (1NC) mark in his past four bouts, but he should be proud of his effort. At the very least, it will earn him a $50,000 bonus, as this matchup was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
Caceres fight scheduled
FeatherweightUFC
April 20, 2023
Pineda will fight Alex Caceres in a featherweight bout at UFC Fight Night 225 on June 3, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Pineda's next opponent is a fellow veteran. Fighting someone with just as much mileage can be promising for the 37-year-old. Defeating the younger Caceres will not be easy though, especially since he has won all but one of his seven fights since late-2019.
Pulls upset of Tucker Lutz
FeatherweightUFC
March 25, 2023
Pineda defeated Tucker Lutz via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:50 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 43 on Saturday in San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Full marks for Pineda showing up ready to go against an opponent that clearly wasn't prepared to fight. The largest underdog on the entire card at +230, Pineda pressure Lutz from the very start. He scored an immediate takedown before adding a knockdown later in Round 1. He continued to pressure his exhausted opponent on the mat early in Round 2 before earning the stoppage about three minutes into the frame. The effort would go on to earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Already 37 years of age, the odds are against Pineda going on a prolonged winning streak, but this was a quality performance in front of family and friends in his native Texas.
