Teruto Ishihara

Yashabo
Throws defense out the window
FeatherweightUFC
February 9, 2019
Ishihara lost to Kyung Ho Kang via technical submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:59 of Round 1 at UFC 234 on Saturday in Melbourne.
ANALYSIS
Ishihara was willing to slug it out with Kang. He stopped Kang dead in his tracks with a power hook, but his opponent was able to right the ship and get back to his feet. When the fighting resumed, Kang went to work with his striking. He landed early and often. Ishihara then surrendered a takedown, gave up his back and went to sleep after refusing to tap. He has now lost three-straight fights in the UFC after winning three of his first five.

Falls once against at UFC Singapore
FeatherweightUFC
June 23, 2018
Ishihara lost to Petr Yan via TKO (punches) at 3:28 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night in Singapore.
ANALYSIS
Ishihara tried to keep this fight on the outside. Early in the fight, this gave Yan some problems. However, once Yan judged the distance, the fight was basically over. He entered range and then threw hard punches until the finish. Ishihara won two of his first three fights in the UFC. However, since then, he has dropped four of five fights.
Booked for UFC Singapore
FeatherweightUFC
May 7, 2018
Ishihara will face Petr Yan in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Singapore on June 23, Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Since collecting back-to-back KO victories in 2016, Ishihara is 1-3 in his last four UFC bouts, with each of those fights going to the judges. He'll accept a risky fight against Yan, an up-and-coming prospect from Russia that is the reigning bantamweight champion in the Absolute Championship Berkut promotion -- one that has sent several top contenders over to the UFC.
Still trying to find way after loss at UFC 221
FeatherweightUFC
February 10, 2018
Ishihara lost to Jose Quinonez via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 221 on Saturday in Perth, Australia.
ANALYSIS
Ishihara has a brash personality and is fun to watch but there's one big issue - he's a lousy fighter. Now sporting a 1-3 record in his last four fights dating back to November 2016, the 26-year-old managed to land a takedown in Round 2 but other than that he did little in terms of scoring points with the judges. The biggest thing Ishihara has going for himself at the moment is that he can fight in multiple (bantamweight, featherweight) weight classes. He isn't going to make an impact in any of them.
Survives three groin shots to win via unanimous decision in Japan
FeatherweightUFC
September 22, 2017
Ishihara defeated Rolando Dy via unanimous decision (28-27, 28-27, 29-27) at UFC Fight Night on Friday in Japan.
ANALYSIS
Ishihara almost had a short night when he landed a huge left hand in the first round. It resulted in a knockdown, and he landed vicious ground and pound for the remainder of the round. The Japanese fighter made good use of elbows from the top position. However, in the second round "Dy Incredible" showed his toughness by coming out ahead. The third round was very competitive, and Dy likely won the round, but "Yashabo" was kicked in the groin area twice. This resulted in a point being deducted from Dy, and he was immobilized on the ground for a short period of time. Ishihara was able to recover and survive for the remainder of the fight to ride his 10-8 score in the first round and the point deduction in the third to a unanimous decision victory.
Can't defend takedown in Friday's loss to Gray Maynard
FeatherweightUFC
July 7, 2017
Ishihara lost to Gray Maynard via unanimous decision (26-30, 26-30, 26-30) at The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale on Friday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Clearly Ishihara's training camp didn't include practicing his takedown defense. The strength of Ishihara's game is his striking, but he was unable to use those skills since he spent nearly the entire fight on his back. Ishihara is still just 25 years old, but his grappling is going to have to get significantly better if he has any prayer of beating talented opponents. Ishihara has now lost two straight fights after winning his first two UFC appearances.
