Drops UFC 299 opener
FlyweightUFC
March 9, 2024
Moroz lost to Joanne Wood via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC 299 on Saturday in Miami.
ANALYSIS
This was a rematch of an April 2015 fight which Moroz won via submission in 90 seconds. As a result, she entered as a -225 favorite and got off to a good start, landing a takedown and 4:35 worth of ground control time in Round 1 alone. Yet, Moroz clearly tired as the fight progressed, allowing Wood to close the gap and eventually pull ahead over the course of the final ten minutes. It's a likely career-altering defeat for Maryna, as she's now lost three in a row dating back to November 2022 and could very easily be handed her walking papers in the near future.

Rematch scheduled against Wood
FlyweightUFC
January 24, 2024
Moroz (undisclosed) is scheduled to compete against Joanne Wood in a flyweight fight in Miami at UFC 299 on March 9, according to the UFC's announcement Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Moroz will look to prevent her third consecutive loss by defeating Wood a second time. Back when Wood was known as Joanne Calderwood, the former defeated the latter via first-round armbar at UFC Fight Night 64 in 2015. By replicating something she did approximately nine years ago, Moroz can get back on track.
Loses in UFC 292 opener
FlyweightUFC
August 20, 2023
Moroz loss to Karine Silva via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:59 of Round 1 at UFC 292 on Saturday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Moroz needed to hang on for just one more second to see the second round, but she ultimately beat the buzzer with her tapout. It was a round largely dominated by Silva, who doubled the total strikes Moroz was able to land, in addition to successfully earning a takedown. Moroz had seemingly gotten herself into a more favorable position, but Silva threw up the guillotine from her back to close the show. That's now back-to-back losses for Moroz, who had previously won three consecutive fights.
Draws Karine Silva at UFC 292
FlyweightUFC
June 11, 2023
Moroz will take on Karine Silva in a flyweight matchup at UFC 292 on August 19 in Boston, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Moroz had a three-fight winning streak snapped by Jennifer Maia last November and will be looking at nearly 10 months between fights by the time the cage doors close. She now draws an up-and-comer in Silva who is 2-0 to start her UFC run. While Silva's striking numbers don't jump off the paper, she does average 2.24 takedowns per 15 minutes, which could be problematic considering Moroz defends takedowns at just a 47 percent clip (though she hasn't been taken down in any of her last four fights). Silva's specialty has so far been the submission, but Moroz has yet to be submitted in 15 professional fights.
Lacks firepower to best opponent
FlyweightUFC
November 19, 2022
Moroz lost to Jennifer Maia via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29 28-29) at UFC Vegas 65 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Moroz has made a living off of overwhelming her opponents with volume, but it's not often she meets a flyweight who can hit like Maia. That power noticeably frustrated "The Iron Lady" throughout the fight, and while she was able to make things a bit more competitive down the stretch, it was clear from where the most impactful shots were coming. Moroz had been riding the momentum of a three-fight win streak but will have a hard time making a case for a title shot with this kind of loss. She falls to 11-4-0 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
Next fight will be Nov. 19
FlyweightUFC
September 1, 2022
Moroz will take on Jennifer Maia at the UFC event on Nov. 19, Raphael Marinho of Combate.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Moroz has had a lot of bouts get cancelled for one reason or the other as of late, most recently was a Sept. 17 fight against Sijara Eubanks. She will get back in the Octagon a couple months later against a fighter struggling as of late. Moroz has won three straight with the most recent being in March against Mariya Agapova.
