Jim Miller

Faces fellow vet in Newark
June 25, 2019
Miller will take on Clay Guida in a lightweight matchup at UFC Newark on Aug. 3.
In a matchup of grizzled vets, Miller will enter as the slightly younger fighter with a narrow edge in both height and reach. He's coming off a first-round submission victory (and Performance of the Night bonus) over Jason Gonzalez in April, improving to 2-1 in his last three fights. Guida has had a late career resurgence as well, sporting a 3-1 mark in his last four trips to the Octagon. Over lengthy sample sizes, Miller sports a slight edge in striking numbers, while the statistical edge in grappling goes to Guida. Miller's last four fights have failed to get out of the first round, but given the historic durability of both fighters, that could very well change this time out.

Picks up 30th career win
April 27, 2019
Miller defeated Jason Gonzalez via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:12 of Round 1 at UFC Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
After getting back in the win column, the 35-year-old Miller stated that he intends to keep fighting and hopes to be back in the cage this summer. He only needed a couple minutes of fight time and six significant strikes to get the job done, and was credited with two takedowns and one advance along the way. While Miller won't be testing the rankings any time soon in a stacked division, he showed here that he remains capable, and also made a bit of history. It was his 19th win in the UFC to bring him up to fifth all time, and his 11 finishes are second-most in the lightweight division. As if winning in impressive fashion in front of his family wasn't enough, the UFC will award him with a $50,000 post-fight performance bonus as well for his efforts.
Gets another fight in April
March 14, 2019
Miller will take on Jason Gonzalez in a lightweight matchup at UFC Fort Lauderdale on April 27, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
Miller is the owner of a storied fighting career but has now dropped five of his last six overall. Recognizing a declining skill set, UFC matchmakers will hand him a 29-year-old opponent that is 1-2 in three UFC fights. Miller is lightyears ahead in terms of experience, but will be giving up four inches in height and three inches in reach to the California-based fighter. While the takedown defense of Miller appears to be fading, Gonzalez has yet to record a takedown in his three UFC bouts, so this could be a good matchup for the gritty veteran.
Gets finished quickly in rematch

Miller lost to Charles Oliveira via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:15 of Round 1 at UFC on Fox 31 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday.
Miller barely had time to adjust his fight shorts in this one, as he threw a kick that allowed his opponent to get the body lock which ultimately led to a choke. Miller said after winning his last fight that he was finally free of the effects of Lyme Disease but he simply couldn't compete with the younger, stronger fighter on this night, eight years after defeating him by submission. Miller falls to 23-19 as a result of the loss, having lost five of his last six bouts.
Set to fight Charles Oliveira in Milwaukee

Miller will face Charles Oliveira at UFC on FOX 31 in Milwaukee on Dec. 15, MMAFighting.com reports.
Miller is looking to win consecutive fights for the first time since 2016 after defeating Alex White via first-round submission (rear-naked choke) in his last trip to the octagon (at UFC 228 in September). His opponent, Oliveira, is coming off a first-round submission over Christos Grigos at UFC Sao Paulo in September. Miller prevailed in the first round when the two met all the way back in 2010.
Staves off retirement with first-round submission win at UFC 228
September 8, 2018
Miller defeated Alex white via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:29 of Round 1 at UFC 228 on Saturday in Dallas.
This was a huge performance for Miller. He dropped White early in the first round with an over-hand combination. From there, he continued to throw punches from the top until he locked in the rear-naked choke and finished the fight. Miller is clearly nearing the end of his career, but he looked solid in this fight. With a loss many expected Miller to hang up the gloves, but with the win, he will likely continue.
