Fight put on hold

Oliveira has reportedly backed out of the Oct. 3 fight against Beneil Dariush, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.

Big test ahead
LightweightUFC
August 26, 2020
Oliveira is expected to take on Beneil Dariush in a lightweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Oct. 3, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Few have a better argument for a title shot than Oliveira, who has compiled seven consecutive wins -- all by finish -- with six Performance of the Night bonuses along the way. If anyone has been as hot as "Do Bronx," however, it's Dariush, who has his own five-fight winning streak with four stoppages and three performance bonuses. Dariush owns better striking offense and defense numbers, but Oliveira has the edge in the grappling categories, sporting better marks in takedown volume and accuracy. Both men stand at 5-foot-10, but Oliveira will hold a two-inch reach advantage. The projects as a matchup that will be tight when sportsbooks release opening odds, but if Oliveira can prevail here and do so in convincing fashion, he would be very difficult to pass up for a title shot by some point in 2021.
Taps Kevin Lee, title shot next?
LightweightUFC
March 14, 2020
Oliveira defeated Kevin Lee via submission (guillotine choke) at 0:28 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Brasilia, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Make it seven wins in a row for Oliveira. His 16 stoppage victories tie Cowboy Cerrone for most in company history. This one didn't come easy. "Do Bronx" started quickly before Lee began to take control. The two men went back and forth before Lee rushed forward and left his next exposed in the early portion of Round 3. Oliveira quickly clamped on a guillotine and that was all she wrote. It's not a stretch to say that the Brazilian is one of the best submission specialists in the history of the sport. He made the stoppage of Lee look ridiculously easy. The ability to make any man on earth tap out in an instant is such a massive advantage as it allows Oliveira to come from behind in the event he is trailing a fight. Oliveira called for the winner of next month's (scheduled) UFC Lightweight Championship fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. He might not get his wish, but he can't be far off. He's a major, major problem for any man at 155 pounds.
Allows fight to proceed as planned

March 13, 2020
Oliveira's fight against Kevin Lee at UFC Brasilia will still take place despite Lee missing weight by 2.5 pounds, Raphael Marinho of Combate.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The only thing left unclear is how much of the purse Lee will have to give up for missing weight. Either way, Oliveira still made the decision to let the fight continue as planned.
