Hand needs X-rays
FlyweightOther
March 9, 2021
Espinosa is facing a 180-day suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission pending an X-ray of his right hand, Farah Hannoun of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Espinosa only attempted 25 total significant strikes in his loss to Tim Elliott on Saturday, and 13 of those came in the first round. While Elliott largely controlled this fight on the mat, a possible hand injury at least offers an explanation for the inactivity. Saturday's loss was Espinosa's fourth in his last five trips to the Octagon, but he may need to wait until fall to right the ship if he's unable to receive the proper clearance.
Controlled by Tim Elliott

March 6, 2021
Espinosa lost to Tim Elliott via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 25-30) at UFC 259 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Espinosa entered this fight with a 90 percent takedown defense, which is shocking considering how easily and dominantly Elliott got him to the ground and kept him there. Some of it was Espinosa's own doing due to the fact he went for reckless strikes and left Elliott with an opening as wide as the Atlantic Ocean to complete his attempts. Espinosa's UFC run may very well be bordering on extinction. He picked up a win over Eric Shelton in his company debut back in March 2019, but has gone on to lose four of five since including a pair of first-round submission defeats and a pair of lopsided unanimous decision losses. The 31-year-old Ohio native offers next to nothing on the feet, and it's nearly impossible to see a path to victory for him if he is being controlled like this on the mat.
Fight pushed back

December 22, 2020
Espinosa's upcoming fight against Tim Elliott will be pushed back to March 6 after he tested positive for COVID-19, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The matchup was originally expected to take place on January 16. Espinosa evidently won't have time to get in fighting shape by that date but expects to be ready when given an additional seven weeks to prepare.
Draws Elliott in January
FlyweightOther
October 15, 2020
Espinosa will fight Tim Elliott in a flyweight bout at the UFC event Jan. 16, MMA DNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Espinosa is coming off a loss to David Dvorak a month ago via unanimous decision. He is now sitting at 1-3 with the UFC and will hope to change that for the better against a fighter making his 15th start with the promotion.
Can't keep pace in Vegas
FlyweightOther
September 19, 2020
Espinosa lost to David Dvorak via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Espinosa looked solid in his unanimous decision win over Mark De La Rosa in June, but De La Rosa offers nothing on the feet, and that's where Dvorak excels. Espinosa tried to keep up with Dvorak in the striking exchanges between the two men, but that's difficult when you're only landing 30 percent of your significant strikes (50-162) while your opponent is connecting on 46 percent (68-146) of his. A former product of Dana White's Contender Series, Espinosa falls to 1-3 in the UFC.
