Comes in heavy on short notice
Roberts missed the lightweight limit and will fight Mateusz Rebecki at a catchweight at UFC 295 on Saturday, Alexander K. Lee of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Roberts was added to the card less than a week ago as a replacement, so this is a weight miss that's a bit understandable, though he'll still be fined 20 percent of his purse. Roberts is entering the Octagon for the first time since 2021, when he lost as a notable favorite to Ignacio Bahamondes.

Added to UFC 295
Roberts is back in the UFC as a late addition to UFC 295 of Nov. 11 against Mateusz Rebecki, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Roberts was a late addition to the card after Nurullo Aliev (leg) had to back out due to injury. His opponent, Rebecki, is riding a two-fight winning streak to start his UFC career. Roberts has not fought with the company since losing to Ignacio Bahamondes via KO in Round 3 of UFC on ESPN 29 in August of 2021.

Routed by Ignacia Bahamondes
Roberts lost to Ignacio Bahamondes via KO (kick) at 4:55 of Round 3 at UFC on ESPN 29 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a crushing defeat for Roberts in another fight in which he entered as a substantial (-170) favorite. It's not as big of a disaster as his loss to Kevin Croom last September (which was later changed to a no-contest by the Nevada State Athletic Commission), but Roberts' UFC run has quickly found itself on life support. Had he not been knocked out, Roberts would have dropped a clear cut unanimous decision. He landed just 65 total strikes compared to 124 from Bahamondes, in addition to failing on all 12 of his takedown attempts. Roberts has elite size (6-foot-1) for the lightweight division, but that's about it. He's winless in his past three fights (0-2, 1NC) on the heels of a 4-1 mark in his first five UFC bouts.

Looking to bounce back
Roberts will take on Ignacio Bahomondes in a lightweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for August 21, CC Legaspi of ESPN reports (via Marcel Dorff of MMADNA).
ANALYSIS
Once a highly-regarded prospect, Roberts' stock fell significantly when he was submitted in 30 seconds by UFC newcomer Kevin Croom last September. He caught a major break, however, as the result was overturned to a no-contest following a positive cannabis test by Croom. Roberts will now get a step down in competition as he looks to build back the same profile he had earned by starting his UFC run with a 4-1 record. It still won't be an easy task against Bahamondes -- a high-volume striker with power who lost his UFC debut in April by split decision. Roberts will be at height and reach disadvantages against his younger opponent.

Falls as massive favorite
Roberts lost to Kevin Croom via submission (guillotine choke) at 0:31 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. Coming off a submission loss to Jim Miller in June and facing an opponent making his UFC debut as a (+450) underdog, Roberts lasted all of 31 seconds. Roberts has gotten some publicity as a potential sleeper at lightweight, but his results with the company have been extremely inconsistent. His record with the UFC is barely over .500 (4-3), and he's trending in the wrong direction. Roberts has both size (6-foot-1) and youth (26 years old) on his side, but this was a clear step backwards for the California native.
