Steps in to face Nicolau
FlyweightUFC
April 2, 2024
Perez won't be fighting against Tagir Ulanbekov and will replace Manel Kape in the bout against Matheus Nicolau on April 27 in the main event of UFC Vegas 91, Danny Segura and Nolan King of MMA Junkie report.
ANALYSIS
Perez has been struggling in recent years, but this might be the fight where he gets his career back on track. The veteran owns a 24-8 record in MMA and 6-4 at the UFC level, but he's also on a three-fight losing streak following his defeat by unanimous decision against Muhammad Mokaev in March. His last win came in 2020.

Ulanbekov up next
FlyweightUFC
March 21, 2024
Perez is scheduled to compete against Tagir Ulanbekov in a flyweight fight for the UFC's June 15 event at Las Vegas, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
This is the first fight announced for the UFC's June 15 Vegas card, now featuring Perez trying to defend his top-10 flyweight ranking. He has not found any luck since losing to Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255 back in November 2020. Multiple losses and fight withdrawals have Perez's once-promising flyweight career on a downward slope.
Losing streak hits three

Perez lost to Muhammad Mokaev via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Perez was firmly in this fight until midway through the final frame, which is all you can ask for from a +300 underdog. He spent the entire bout fending off takedown attempts from Mokaev. All in all, he did a nice job. He stuffed 17-of-20 tries, allowing one in each round. Round 2 was the lone frame in which Perez was able to make some offensive headway. In the other ten minutes, he simply didn't generate enough to earn the decision. Now 31 years of age, Alex hasn't fought much lately, and when he has, it hasn't gone well. Perez has lost three straight dating back to November 2020, albeit against elite competition (Mokaev, Alexandre Pantoja, Deiveson Figueiredo).

Perez (undisclosed) will compete against Muhammad Mokaev in a flyweight fight at UFC Saudi Arabia on March 2, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Perez has recovered from his seizure and will look to finally fight for the first time since 2022. Multiple injuries have led to too many cancellations for the flyweight, and he will look to prevent a 10th and come out victorious in March.
Recovering from seizure
FlyweightUFC
April 5, 2023
Perez disclosed March 26 in a post on his personal Instagram account that he withdrew from his flyweight matchup with Manel Kape at last month's UFC event in San Antonio after experiencing a seizure in his pre-fight warmup.
ANALYSIS
Perez noted that cutting weight in advance of the fight wasn't a factor in the seizure, and he's set to undergo testing in the coming weeks to determine what the source was for the medical emergency. With a 24-7 career MMA record, Perez is currently ranked as the UFC's No. 6 flyweight.
Fight-cancellation streak continues
FlyweightUFC
March 25, 2023
Perez had his fight against Manel Kape in Saturday's UFC card in San Antonio canceled "due to medical issues," per the UFC.
ANALYSIS
Perez and Kape have been slated to participate in Saturday's card dating back to mid-December, though it appears a last-second undisclosed injury will get in the way of this. This marks the ninth time since May of 2021 that Perez will have a bout canceled due to various reasons, including failing to make weight and injuries to himself and his opponents. It's still unclear which of these two fighters is dealing with an injury, leaving both of their statuses up in the air for the time being.
