Losing streak hits seven
LightweightUFC
December 16, 2023
Ferguson lost to Paddy Pimblett via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 296 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's Ferguson's seventh straight defeat and one that should ensure the end of the UFC run. Of course, we've said that after each of his last few fights, and he's still around. The best thing that can be said about Tony's evening is that he didn't give up and managed to see the final bell. It looked as if he would be finished multiple times in Round 1. He was more competitive over the course of the final ten minutes, but was never able to generate any notable offense and spent a good portion of the time on his back. Simply put, Ferguson, who will be 40 years of age in February, has zero gas left in the tank. This was a winnable fight, and Tony didn't come remotely close to securing the victory.

Will take on Pimblett

Ferguson will fight Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296 on Dec. 16, according to Dana White.
ANALYSIS
Ferguson is coming off six straight losses, but his past reputation has kept him in the thick of things. To his credit, he's not going to shy away from any fight. The 39-year-old will have his hands full with the undefeated Pimblett who is coming off a lengthy absence due to his ankle.
Suffers sixth straight loss

Ferguson lost to Bobby Green via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 4:54 of Round 3 at UFC 291 on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
ANALYSIS
Ferguson's dedication to the sport and his desire to continuing fighting is admirable, but there's a point in which the UFC has to step in, and after six straight losses, we've likely reached it. Tony actually knocked Green down in Round 1, and his durability appeared much improved in the sense he survived all the strikes Bobby threw his way, but it's too little, too late. Tony went to sleep with six seconds left in the fight as opposed to tapping out. Ferguson will be 40 years of age next February. He's defeated the likes of Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis, Rafael dos Anjos, and Edson Barboza in his UFC career. Don't let his struggles in recent years take away from what was a heck of a run.

Ferguson will face Bobby Green in a welterweight contest at UFC 291 on July 29 in Salt Lake City, Shaheed Al-Shatti of MMAFighting.com reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Ferguson could use a victory. He's lost five straight matches after starting out nearly unbeatable in the UFC. What's more, he was arrested for a DUI in early May. However, he'll get his chance to right the ship in late July with a duel scheduled against Bobby Green. Green is also coming off a pair of losses, and most recently, a frustrating no-contest in April.
Arrested for DUI

Ferguson was arrested for driving under the influence Saturday, according to MMAJunkie.com.
ANALYSIS
Ferguson crashed his truck into two cars parked outside a Hollywood nightclub. Along with a misdemeanor DUI, he also faces other charges because of his reported refusal to undergo a field sobriety test. The UFC has not booked Ferguson into any fight following his loss to Nate Diaz, and it appears that will continue for a little longer.

Ferguson lost to Nate Diaz via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:52 of Round 4 at UFC 279 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
For those holding out a very small glimmer of hope that Ferguson might be able to get things back on track, this will put an end to that. It's been quite a while since we've seen it fall apart on a fighter as quickly as it has Ferguson. Facing an opponent in Diaz who was willing to fight anyone to fulfill his UFC contract, Tony generated no offense whatsoever outside of leg kicks. The kicks were exceedingly effective, but Ferguson didn't throw enough of them. Defensively, Tony was a stationary punching bag. It's nearly impossible to believe this is a guy who was viewed as one of the most creative offensive minds in this sport not all that long ago. Tony seemed content with the loss, but then all but confirmed in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan that he plans on returning. With five losses in a row dating back to May 2020, there's a very real chance the UFC could move on. Set to turn 39 years of age this coming February, the Ferguson we all know and love isn't coming back.
