Depth goalie Killeen hasn't been able to play his way out of the ECHL in three pro seasons.
Killeen spent a day on the Penguins roster early in the 2011-12 season as part of a procedural move. That was the 22-year-old's best chance of seeing Consol Energy Center and it's doubtful he gets there again anytime soon. Killeen spent the majority of last year in the ECHL, where he went 19-12-4 with a 2.69 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage. He still has youth on his side but has slid down the depth chart with Pittsburgh adding a couple tenders in the offseason.
Killeen, 21, will battle for a spot in the AHL behind starter Brad Thiessen in 2011-12. The 6-foot-4 tender spent his first professional season in the ECHL, going 19-16-2 with a 2.87 goals-against average and .901 save percentage. His standing within the organization went up after former Baby Penguins goalie, John Curry, decided to play overseas in Germany. Still, it's unlikely he sees much time with Wilkes-Barre, as Thiessen has upped his prospect tag in recent years. As a result, Killeen has some value in keeper leagues but he's no sure thing.
