DraftKings NHL: Saturday Breakdown

DraftKings NHL: Saturday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

The fourth day of the NHL season features 10 games, including two afternoon outings. This article will highlight part of the afternoon slate in each segment, but it will primarily focus on the evening slate.

SLATE PREVIEW

The afternoon slate favors the Bruins for obvious reasons, but there's still value to be found with the Coyotes against a Sharks team that has a long way to go to get back into the good graces of fantasy players. In the evening slate, Carolina against Detroit is once again an appealing matchup, and we'll look at bounce-back opportunities for the Maple Leafs, Rangers and Blue Jackets.

GOALIES

Jaroslav Halak, BOS vs. NJ ($8,000): Halak will make his season debut in the noon game. The 35-year-old has been excellent since arriving in Boston, accumulating a .921 SV% and a 40-17-10 record over two seasons. A light shot count could be on tap against the hapless Devils, but Halak provides an intriguing floor Saturday.

Petr Mrazek, CAR at DET ($8,300): Mrazek is the chalk again coming off a 14-save shutout. The low workload is a fair concern, but the Hurricanes (-225) are better than they get credit for, and they're heavily favored for a reason. If the Canes go with James Reimer ($8,100), feel comfortable starting him as well.

Alexandar Georgiev, NYR vs. NYI ($7,400): Fellow netminder Igor Shesterkin struggled Thursday with four goals allowed on 33 shots, but with no offensive support, there was little hope in the first place. The Rangers are a young team with a lot of firepower; they should bounce back offensively. Georgiev is a good enough goalie -- he posted a .910 SV% over 34 games last year -- to withstand the Islanders' mediocre offense, which finished 22nd last year with 2.22 xGF/60, per Natural Stat Trick.

Joonas Korpisalo, CLS at NSH ($7,400): Korpisalo was outstanding on Opening Night, steering away 32 of 34 shots in a loss to the Predators. He should get the rematch Saturday. His counterpart, Juuse Saros ($7,800), was also impressive Thursday, and it's poised to be another low-scoring outing tonight.

VALUE PLAYS

Clayton Keller, ARI vs. SJ (W - $5,100): Keller pocketed a pair of points on Opening Night, adding four shots on net and logging 18:04 of ice time. The 22-year-old has a long line of success with three consecutive seasons with at least 44 points. Keller drives the offense on whichever line he's on, and San Jose remains vulnerable after allowing 3.21 goals per game last year.

Kirill Kaprizov, MIN at LA (W - $4,200): Kaprisov catapulted himself to the top of the Calder Trophy race with three points in his NHL debut. The 23-year-old looked the part, and he finished with 21:52, including 7:42 on the power play. He may already be Minnesota's top forward. This price tag is going to rise soon.

Kailer Yamamoto, EDM vs. MON (W - $4,800): The Carey Price matchup shouldn't scare off anyone at this point. Price is great, but he got lit up on Opening Night and his .909 save percentage last season wasn't anything to call home about. Meanwhile, Yamamoto looks poised for a breakout season after depositing three points over the first two games, and his position flanking Leon Draisaitl is locked in.

LINE STACKS

Boston Bruins vs. New Jersey Devils

Patrice Bergeron (C - $7,400), Brad Marchand (W - $7,400) Anders Bjork (W - $2,500)

They're missing David Pastrnak, and Bjork likely will be the second right wing in as many games. The ceiling is still massive, as Marchand and Bergeron combined for three points -- two with the man advantage -- in Thursday's win. MacKenzie Blackwood stood on his head last time around, but the brick wall can only last so long.

New York Rangers vs. New York Islanders

Ryan Strome (C - $5,300), Artemi Panarin (W - $7,100), Alexis Lafreniere (W - $3,500)

A pair of top-five picks and an undrafted Hart contender, this line was held in check as the Rangers were blanked in the season opener. The Islanders are a sound defensive team, but they aren't outstanding in that respect, letting up 2.3 xGA/60 last year -- the 14th-highest in the league. Look for the Rangers to get back on track Saturday evening. Panarin & Co. should lead the charge.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Ottawa Senators

Alex Kerfoot (C - $2,500), Zach Hyman (W - $5,100), Ilya Mikheyev (W - $3,900)

Friday's loss to the Senators was on brand for the Maple Leafs, but they're too stacked not to bounce back. This line was a bright spot in the game, as it faced better matchups than the Matthews or Tavares lines. They posted two even-strength points, and Hyman added a power-play goal as well. Utilize the trio as a solid contrarian play Saturday.

DEFENSEMEN

Jakob Chychrun, ARI vs. SJ ($5,100): Chyrchrun had a remarkable season opener, recording 24:18 of ice time and pocketing two assists and five shots on net. He usually blocks a couple of shots as well, but he fell short in that area Thursday. The 22-year-old will only fly under the radar for so long, and the Sharks are still a fairly weak defensive team, specifically in net.

Morgan Rielly, TOR vs. OTT ($6,100): Rielly was the overtime hero in the season opener, but he was left off the point column Friday night in the loss to Ottawa. He should continue to lead the blue line in ice time, and running the power play should provide plenty of opportunities as well. If the Maple Leafs make proper adjustments, Rielly will be an elite option against the Sens, who aren't expected to repeat last night's effort.

Alec Martinez, VGK vs. ANH ($4,500): Martinez is a machine in the shots and blocked shots departments. The 33-year-old has fired at least three shots on net in 11 of 31 games with the Golden Knights, and he blocked at least three shots in 17 of contests in that stretch. That solid foundation combined with major minutes and power-play time makes him a prime candidate against the rebuilding Ducks.

Filip Hronek, DET vs. CAR ($3,600): Hronek's a cost-saving gamble with immense upside. The 23-year-old is a superb talent, and while the situation is terrible, there are some glimmers of hope, including top-pairing minutes and power-play usage. Hronek finished with 31 points last year, with 10 coming on the power play. His plus-minus isn't a concern in DFS, so shoot for his upside Saturday.
