Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

The NHL is heading toward the All-Star break, so this is a light week for the league. Tuesday is the busiest day of the bunch, and even then there are only five games. Your daily fantasy hockey opportunities are limited this week, but for Tuesday here are my recommendations for who to target, and who to avoid, for your daily fantasy lineup.

GOALIE

Alexandar Georgiev, NYR vs. NYI ($29): There is a changing of the guard going on for the Rangers, and Georgiev is a part of that. The 23-year-old has a .913 save percentage, and over his last three starts he has a .941 save percentage. While the Islanders have a strong defense, their offense has a lot of issues. In fact, on the road they've only averaged 2.43 goals and 28.9 shots on net per contest.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Petr Mrazek, CAR vs. WPG ($27): The Hurricanes don't allow a lot of shots, which is why Mrazek has a 2.64 GAA despite a .904 save percentage. Winnipeg has actually been quite strong offensively on the road. The Jets have averaged 3.24 goals per contest in away games.

CENTER

Charlie Coyle, BOS vs. VGK ($16): Coyle has tallied six points in his last seven games. Additionally, with David Krejci out, Coyle has moved up to Boston's second line, and if Krejci is still sidelined Tuesday that should be the case again. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights have a 3.04 GAA, and Marc-Andre Fleury has a .906 save percentage.

CENTER TO AVOID

Sean Couturier, PHI vs. PIT ($22): Couturier is having a good year, but not as good of a year as Tristan Jarry. Pittsburgh's goalie has a 2.16 GAA and .929 save percentage. While the Penguins have a middling penalty kill, Couturier only has one point with the extra man in his last 14 contests.

WING

Andrei Svechnikov, CAR vs. WPG ($24): Like Couturier, Svechnikov has struggled on the power play recently, but he has 15 power-play points and has averaged 3:02 per game with the extra man. He's done it before, and this could be the kind of matchup where he gets back on track on the power play. The Jets have a bottom-five penalty kill.

Dominik Kubalik, CHI vs. FLA ($18): Kubalik is a 24-year-old rookie who was a seventh-round pick, so if you aren't terribly familiar with him I understand. You may want to familiarize yourself, though, as the Czech wing has 21 goals in 48 games, and he's moved his way up to the top line for the Blackhawks. The Panthers have a 3.26 GAA, and on top of that they are the one team on the second leg of a back-to-back Tuesday.

WINGS TO AVOID

Mike Hoffman, FLA at CHI ($20): Like I mentioned earlier, the Panthers are on the road for the second game of a back-to-back. That won't help Hoffman. What's also not helpful is the fact the Blackhawks have the sixth-ranked penalty kill, despite their issues allowing shots. Hoffman has tallied 15 of his 38 points with the extra man, so a tough penalty kill can keep him in check.

Chris Kreider, NYR vs. NYI ($18): Kreider has nine goals in his last 15 games, but on 19.6 percent shooting that will probably regress a bit. While he's hot, this is the kind of matchup that can cool a player off. The Islanders have a 2.67 GAA and a .915 save percentage as a team.

DEFENSE

Jaccob Slavin, CAR vs. WPG ($16): Slavin has 22 points in 49 games, despite the fact he normally doesn't see time on the power play. However, Dougie Hamilton has suffered an unfortunate injury, and now Slavin has stepped right into his role on Carolina's top power-play unit. This boosts his offensive potential, especially since the Jets have that bottom-five penalty kill I mentioned.

Adam Boqvist, CHI vs. FLA ($10): Boqvist has started 59.6 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Blackhawks. The rookie has also already grabbed a power-play role, as he's averaged 2:07 per game with the extra man. Chris Driedger was giving the Panthers some hope in net, but he's hurt now, leaving them with two goalies that have a sub-.900 save percentage.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Keith Yandle, FLA at CHI ($19): The optics aren't great here, given that Yandle had four points Monday, but I stand by it. Yandle is all about the power play. He's notched 20 of his 39 points with the extra man. However, the Blackhawks have the sixth-ranked penalty kill. Chicago is also even better when Robin Lehner is in net, as the Swede has a .924 save percentage despite facing a ton of shots.

Shea Theodore, VGK at BOS ($18): Theodore is having a good season, but now he's facing a Bruins team with a 2.52 GAA. Sure, Tuukka Rask is dealing with a concussion, but Jaroslav Halak actually has a 2.49 GAA. Also, unsurprisingly, the Bruins have the third-best penalty kill in the NHL.
