DraftKings NHL: Sunday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

All four teams playing will be preparing for the second half of their back-to-back. The Blue Jackets get yet another day off after being the only team that didn't take part in Saturday's 15-game slate.

The Golden Knights will return home after losing by one goal against the Kings. They'll host the Flames, who were shut out by Arizona last night and have now dropped three straight games with just three goals scored. Consistency has been a problem through the first two months of the season for the two preseason division favorites.

Jack Eichel scored all four Sabres goals in a win against Ottawa and he'll carry his hot streak to Chicago where the Blackhawks have won three straight. They're 5-1-1 in their past seven games, and that includes two impressive road wins against Vegas and Nashville. Scoring has not been a problem for the Blackhawks; keeping the puck out of their net certainly has.

GOALIES

Given the Flames' recent troubles, Marc-Andre Fleury ($8,000) is an expensive but logical first choice. His home stats of 4-4-1, .887 Sv%, 3.49 GAA are very poor but he's typically been quite good against Chicago with career 10-6-5, .913 Sv%, 2.65 GAA marks. The Flames have gone 4-7-1 away from the Saddledome. If Cam Talbot ($7,200) - who has lost three straight with 10 goals allowed - wins the game, it'll be because the Flames' offense provided a much-needed spark.

Carter Hutton ($7,500) has allowed five goals in each of his past two games and doesn't breed a lot of confidence. The Sabres are once again experiencing a winter lull after a hot start in October and it's hard to rely on Eichel to win games every night. However, the Blackhawks' goaltending has been worse this season, and despite his recent strong play it's even more difficult to trust Corey Crawford ($7,700).

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Rasmus Asplund ($2,500) enjoyed a pretty solid Sabres debut, skating 12 minutes and registering two shots, including one scoring chance shorthanded. With just two games on the docket, you'll have to dig a little deeper to find wild-card guys who could perform. Asplund's one of them.

Kirby Dach ($2,800) and David Kampf ($3,000) both scored a point last night in a 7-2 win against Nashville. The two youngsters are stuck on the Blackhawks' bottom six, but they definitely have some scoring upside - especially Dach, who's still not getting power-play time but clearly a key piece of their future. And all four of Kampf's goals this season have come in the past 10 games.

FORWARD LINE STACKS

Buffalo Sabres (TOTAL: $18,100)

C – Jack Eichel ($7,000)
W – Sam Reinhart ($6,100)
W – Victor Olofsson ($5,000)

This line's all about Eichel, who had a slump-busting four-goal effort last night. DraftKings rewards shooters more, and he's fired five shots or more in six games this season, two of which have come in his past two games. Olofsson and Reinhart added three assists last night.

Vegas Golden Knights (TOTAL: $17,900)

C – William Karlsson ($6,000)
W – Max Pacioretty ($6,700)
W – Reilly Smith ($5,200)

Gerard Gallant has totally mixed up his lines as he tries to jumpstart his offense. It kinda worked with a three-goal effort against the Kings, but Karlsson (back-to-back two-point games), Pacioretty (four goals in five games) and Smith (three points in four games) represent one of the new trios that has worked as they racked up five points last night.

DEFENSEMEN

Rasmus Dahlin ($4,700) will be a popular pick. The Blackhawks' defense and PK is atrocious and he's notched two assists in three games. Henri Jokiharju ($3,700) also possesses some offensive upside, but he's used too sparingly to be dependable. Shea Theodore ($4,500), who also has two assists in three games, is another high-upside option running Vegas's power play.

Calvin de Haan ($4,000) has been very good lately and rides a four-game streak of three or more blocked shots. He also has registered three points in four games, which is nice but not his game. So if you're picking de Haan, you're looking for peripherals.
