Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

We have a six-game slate on the docket with four of the road teams in the midst of back-to-back contests. With plenty of options up for grabs, stake your claim by checking out the following players to target, and to avoid.

GOALIE

Jacob Markstrom, VAN at LA ($33): Markstrom produced a dud in his last outing, but as a true starting goaltender, he should be able to bounce back to the position he was in previously with a .933 save percentage through the first five contests. A matchup against the Kings should do the trick since they've lit the lamp just four times over the past three games.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Mike Smith, EDM at CLS ($32): For all the early-season hype around the Oilers, they've been truly awful away from home, as they've dropped their last four road games with just two scores in that span. Smith hasn't been spectacular in his own right, either, with a season-long .914 save percentage, so the slim chance of a win makes him a risky play.

CENTER

Brayden Schenn, STL vs. MIN ($19): Schenn is quietly tied for third with the ranks of Alex Ovechkin and Auston Matthews with nine goals in one less game than each of them. He has a solid opportunity to continue to success against Devan Dubnyk ($23), who has yielded three scores in each start and will play for the first time in a week coming off a lower-body injury.

CENTER TO AVOID

Aleksander Barkov, FLA @ COL ($27): Barkov has been an assist machine but he's failed to tickle the twine. It has cost him, too, as Barkov has only hit double-digit fantasy points in three games this year, which is far too scarce for the road price tag he's sporting.

WINGS

Taylor Hall, NJ vs. TB ($28): Hall may not be at his typical level of production, but seven points through nine games isn't bad. He does rank among the elite with four shots on net per game, however, so Hall's just knocking at the door. The Lightning present an attractive opportunity to mark the stat sheet, as Tampa Bay has the fifth-worst team Corsi For percentage (47.42) and will be starting their backup Curtis McElhinney ($26).

Joel Armia, MON at ARI ($18): Armia has been peppering the net to the tune of nearly three shots per game, and it's been working with six goals in nine games. He's red hot, and his power-play minutes should come in handy against Arizona's 21st-ranked penalty kill (78.1 percent).

WINGS TO AVOID

James Neal, EDM at CLS ($22): Neal's surge has died off, and he now has two points and a minus-5 rating over the last five games. That's not the main issue, though, as he's also been dropped to the third line. The Oilers are extremely top heavy with 42 percent of their goals coming from two players (you can guess the pair), so Neal's being pushed from opportunity.

Zach Parise, MIN at STL ($15): Father time spares no man, and Parise's no exception. The 35-year-old is on a four-game drought, and he has just three points and a minus-12 rating this year. He's being ditched in season-long leagues, and daily gamers should follow suit.

DEFENSE

Cale Makar, COL vs. FLA ($19): Makar keeps on rocking, as he's notched a point in every game but two so far. His continued power-play minutes keep his chances on tap, so keep plugging him in as long as his price stays depressed.

Ryan McDonagh, TB at NJ ($15): Victor Hedman left last night's game with an undisclosed injury and was ruled out during the second period, signalling a good chance he has to sit out. That would make McDonagh the team's top left-handed blueliner, and it may even earn him power-play time. He consistently hits 40 points when he stays healthy, so he's a major value with increased duties ahead.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

P.K. Subban, NJ vs. TB ($20): The numbers simply haven't been there since Subban got to New Jersey. He's surpassed 4.0 fantasy points and two shots on net just once over the last eight games, so it's hard to trust him at this price until things turn around.

Drew Doughty, LA at VAN ($17): Doughty's a solid two-way player, but he cashes checks with the man advantage. Since the beginning of last year, over half of his points were marked on the power play, so Vancouver's 86.5-percent kill rate will make things difficult for the veteran.
