DraftKings NHL: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

John Gibson, ANA vs. LA ($8,100): In a matchup between the league's worst and second-worst offense, the only winners are the goalies. Despite having worse goal support, Gibson should still have the advantage because of how well the Duck shave been playing, limiting the Oilers and Flames to just two goals, and since March 1 they've outscored the Kings by 10 goals. Sergei Bobrovsky ($8,200) has a good chance to clinch a playoff spot against the pedestrian Rangers, but their game-to-game performance has been very unpredictable this season.

CENTER

Sam Steel, ANA vs. LA ($3,900): The odds of this game being low-scoring is pretty high, but I remain intrigued by Steel as their No. 1 center even with Ryan Getzlaf back in the lineup. This is a huge vote of confidence from Bob Murray, and Steel has responded with a goal and an assist in two games, averaging over 18 minutes. Jonathan Quick has the worst save percentage (.872) since March 1 among goalies with at least five starts.

Jason Spezza, DAL at CHI ($3,100): It's a meaningless game unless the Stars really want to avoid the Flames in the first round, and in Jim Montgomery's first season we're still learning about him. Spezza has been skating on the fourth line with Brett Ritchie and Valeri Nichushkin; it's a talented line though largely ineffective, but maybe against one of the league's worst defenses the trio might fare well enough to score a goal.

WING

Cam Atkinson, CLS at NYR ($7,300): The Blue Jackets can clinch with a win and Atkinson's their most dangerous goal scorer, with 41 on the season and three points in his past three games. A notorious high-volume shooter, he's in a good spot to get a puck past the aging Henrik Lundqvist and a young defense. He's scored four points against them this season, and John Tortorella has stacked up the top line with Pierre-Luc Dubois ($5,500) and Artemi Panarin ($6,100).

Tyler Toffoli, LA at ANA ($4,100): Despite having the worst season of his career so far, Toffoli looks determined to finish strong, logging two points in his past three games and looking quite good with Adrian Kempe ($2,700). The Kings' scoring woes have been well documented, but Toffoli's upside is his high-volume shooting; with 221 shots he leads the team by 46.

Drake Caggiula, CHI vs. DAL ($3,500): He's skating on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, so life's pretty good right now. He's played more than 18 minutes in each of his past two games, registering two assists (and surviving a wild Byfuglien attack) and presents a lot of upside at this price. It's worth noting Caggiula also has zero shots in those two games, but we can live with him just deferring to Toews and Kane.

DEFENSE

Seth Jones, CLS at NYR ($5,900): He has four assists in his past four games and continues to be the workhorse for the Blue Jackets, who will clinch a playoff spot with a win. John Tortorella's going to ride him hard, and the Rangers are a good matchup without an elite scoring line. Since March 1, Jones has averaged almost three shots and 26 minutes per game, making him one of the safest picks.

John Klingberg, DAL at CHI ($5,800): He has a chance to pad his stats facing the league's worst penalty kill, though the power play may take a hit if Jamie Benn can't play. Klingberg has been underwhelming after an excellent performance last season, but still ranks 13th in the league in points per game and carries a two-game point streak into the game
