DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Jordan Binnington, STL vs. VGK ($7,500): The Blues almost blew a 3-0 lead against the Lightning, but the bigger takeaway was Binnington's 39-save performance. The Knights are a very good team, and they're 6-2-0 on the road. With Mark Stone's two-way play they've shed some of their reputation as a team that's only good at home, but Binnington's been arguably the best goalie in the league in the second half of the season. He's a good value bet at this price.

CENTER

Sean Monahan, CGY vs. LA ($6,200): Monahan hasn't been this cheap in two weeks, and this is a good value play against a team that allows a lot of shots. Opponents can only keep Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau off the score sheet for so long, though it's a good sign that they're still winning without their production. The Kings allowed three goals against the lousy Ducks and the Flames offense is much stronger.

Mark Scheifele, WPG vs. DAL ($6,000): Like Monahan, Scheifele is an elite center who has become a good value play because he's on a cold streak with just one goal in four games. The biggest obstacle for Schiefele will be Ben Bishop, who has been brilliant for the Stars this season. The games haven't been close this season, including 5-1 wins for both the Stars and Jets, but here's hoping the Jets' superior play at home gives them the edge. Scheifele's scored 59 of his 80 points at home this season.

WING

Jake Guentzel, PIT at NYR ($6,500): Considering who Guentzel gets to play with and who he's facing, this feels like a better play than Alexander Radulov ($6,900) or David Pastrnak ($7,000). He's been having his best month so far with nine goals and 15 points in 13 games, three of which have come in the past three games.

Jeff Skinner, BUF at NJ ($5,700): He's a high-volume shooter going up against a weak defensive team, so at worst Skinner should still be able to put up a couple fantasy points on shots alone. His scoring rate has slowed considerably with just two points in 11 games, but at this price against an opponent with shaky goaltending, he may be worth the gamble.

Brayden Schenn, STL vs. VGK ($4,600): Schenn has four points in his past four games, giving him 21 points over the past two months after scoring just five in January. Vladimir Tarasenko has come back at a good time and together with Ryan O'Reilly combined for five points against the Lightning. Schenn has scored more points against opponents from the Pacific Division than any other division this season.

DEFENSE

Mark Giordano, CGY vs. LA ($6,700): He had a hand in all three goals against the Canucks and continues his historic season, giving the Flames their fifth 70-point scorer and joining some vaunted company in his age-35 season. He comes at a $300 discount to Brent Burns and the difference between them isn't all that much. Giordano's a safe pick and an elite defenseman who's routinely the best with his ability to score and contribute in all categories. He's carrying a seven-game point streak into L.A.

Jacob Trouba, WPG vs. DAL ($5,600): He'll pick up some fantasy points simply by blocking a lot of shots, but he's also been getting good bounces lately and registered five points in his past six games. He'll be relied on heavily against the Stars' top line, and even though the Jets have clinched a playoff spot, seeding does matter, so expect Trouba to continue to play a lot of minutes. He has three points and seven blocked shots in three games against them this season.
