DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Marc-Andre Fleury, VGK vs. MIN ($8,300): Sometimes it's best not to overthink it and just go with the best option. Fleury has a 15-4-3 record and a .926 save percentage at home this season and playing his best hockey of the season. The Wild aren't very good on the road and have had trouble scoring goals recently, and Fleury held them to just one goal on 30 shots the last time they met on Oct. 6.

CENTER

Vincent Trocheck, FLA vs. SJ ($5,900): He's scored three points in two games without missing a beat, and right away has helped them beat two playoff teams in Toronto and Nashville. At his best, Trocheck is a high-volume shooting center who could be a No. 1 center on many other teams, and was more effective than Aleksander Barkov against Nashville on Saturday. He comes $400 cheaper than Barkov and the Sharks not a very strong team on the road.

Colton Sissons, NSH at COL ($4,500): Sissons led all Nashville forwards in ice time with 22:36 on Saturday against the Panthers, and if Ryan Johansen sitting out another game expect him to get the same kind of workload. He didn't score a point and finished minus-2 against the Panthers, and he's normally not used as a scorer, but he's getting a lot of opportunities. Calle Jarnkrok ($3,800) is another option but he ended up playing with Nick Bonino more instead.

WING

Mikko Rantanen, COL vs. NSH ($7,500): Rantanen has five points in his past three games and the Avs' top line is starting to wake from its lull. It helps that two of the opponents were the Sens and Kings, but the Preds are also struggling lately, especially in net with Pekka Rinne and Juuse Saros both struggling. Jared Bednar has last change on home ice so he can get Rantanen the best matchups and away from Roman Josi and P.K. Subban.

Max Pacioretty, VGK vs. MIN ($5,600):Brandon Pirri is $700 more even though Pacioretty plays a bigger role and a more consistent high-volume shooter, making him a fair option to get some exposure to the Knights at home. Him and Paul Stastny are practically inseparable, and Alex Tuch ($6,000) brings some size and skill. It's a very good second line that the Wild may have trouble defending without Matt Dumba and lacking quality depth on their blue line.

J.T. Compher, COL vs. NSH ($4,700): His role has increased steadily over the course of the season, averaging 19:35 per game in January after averaging less than 13 minutes in October. His production has been pretty steady, and in his past three games has collected two assists. Playing with Carl Soderberg has elevated his game and now he's potentially emerging as a viable depth scorer for the Avs. The Preds will be a tough test but they have struggled on the road this season.

DEFENSE

Brent Burns, SJ at FLA ($6,800): If Erik Karlsson sits out, Burns will have to shoulder much of the offensive load once again. He was held without a point against the Lightning but registered seven shots on goal in 24 minutes of ice time. He's worth the premium because he doesn't have to share the puck like Roman Josi and P.K. Subban. Tim Heed ($2,900) is a sneaky value play, getting some of the power-play time vacated by Karlsson.

Vince Dunn, STL at LA ($3,700):Alex Pietrangelo ($5,400) is the safer play but his upside isn't nearly as high as Dunn's, who quarterbacks the 1B power-play unit and has always been known as an offensive defenseman. Dunn's production will be dependent on how much usage he gets with the man advantage, but hopefully he can be efficient facing the league's worst penalty kill.
