FanDuel NHL: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

We're deep enough into the season that things are starting to stabilize on the numbers front. Some hot, or cold, starts have been forgotten. Heck, even William Nylander is playing now! There are eight games Saturday night. Here are my recommendations for your daily fantasy lineup.

GOALIE

Jimmy Howard, DET vs. NYI ($8,600): Neither of these teams have been great recently, but the Wings are at home and that should give them a slight edge. Howard has been playing quite well, despite a couple of starts recently that were less than ideal. In his last 10 games, the American netminder has posted a 2.49 GAA and .927 save percentage. The Islanders have endured some offensive issues by only managing 28.0 shots on goal per contest.

CENTER

Mika Zibanejad, NYR at FLA ($7,000): Zibanejad has recently been quite the playmaker, with five assists in his last four games. He should probably start scoring more goals as well, as indicated by his 8.8 shooting percentage from 91 shots on goal. The Panthers come in with a 3.48 GAA, and Roberto Luongo's looked uneven in net in his two games since returning from injury.

Carl Soderberg, COL at TAM ($4,400): Soderberg is finally giving the Avalanche some depth behind their elite top line. He's notched six points over his last six games, giving him 21 points on the season. Tampa's offense has exceled, and it has had to be firing on all cylinders as Louis Domingue – with a 3.07 GAA and .903 save percentage – has struggled mightily to replace the injured Andrei Vasilevskiy.

WING

Jake Guentzel, PIT at OTT ($6,900): It's not hard to recommend a guy going up against the Senators. Ottawa owns a 4.10 GAA and has allowed 38.1 shots on net per game, both worst in the NHL. However, Guentzel has also been scoring and is currently riding a six-game point streak in which he's notched 10 points.

Mike Hoffman, FLA vs. NYR ($6,800): Hoffman wasn't able to keep his point streak alive all season, but he's still having a great year. He's also put a ton of shots on net, firing 105 shots on goal in 27 contests. The Rangers have been lenient when it comes to allowing pucks on their net with 33.9 shots on goal per game, so Hoffman should be able to stay active in this one.

Clayton Keller, ARI vs. SAN ($6,400): Keller has been a rare bright spot on Arizona's offense, which was also true last season. The sophomore has 19 points in 27 games, including eight on the power play. San Jose is on the road for the second game of a back-to-back and Aaron Dell – with a 3.02 GAA and .897 save percentage in his last five starts – will likely be in net.

DEFENSE

Zach Werenski, CLM vs. WAS ($5,100): Werenski is putting up a performance with the extra man reminiscent of his rookie season, when he tallied 21 power-play points. The former Michigan Wolverine has averaged 2:57 per game in power-play time, notching seven points with the extra man in 28 games. Washington comes in with a 3.18 GAA, owing in part to a 25th-placed league ranking on the penalty kill.

Brian Dumoulin, PIT at OTT ($4,000): If you don't want to spend big bucks for Kris Letang but still want a Penguins defenseman thanks to this favorable matchup, Dumoulin isn't a bad choice. He's skating alongside Letang on Pittsburgh's top defensive pairing and has chipped in with a point in each of his last three games. As previously noted, the Senators rank 31st in GAA and shots allowed per game. At this price, Dumoulin is worth a gamble.
