DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Ben Bishop, DAL vs. CLS ($7,800): If you end up picking Bishop you're watching this matchup with one eye closed because sometimes the Stars can put in some bad performances, and the Jackets are leading the competitive Metro Division. Bishop lost in his previous start against them but that was in Columbus, and Bishop is 4-2-1 with a .918 save percentage at home.

CENTER

Mika Zibanejad, NYR vs. VAN ($7,000): It feels like he's the lone outstanding Swede who doesn't play for the Canucks, but he's certainly had tons of success facing them with 10 points in 10 career games. The Canucks are a high-scoring team (no, really) but definitely subpar on defense and goaltending. This will be the Canucks' fourth straight road game and expected starter Jacob Markstrom has shown in the past he tires out during long stretches.

Lucas Wallmark, CAR vs. CHI ($3,200): If you look a little deeper into Carolina's pool they've got some quality depth among their forwards. Wallmark's one of them, a potential No. 2 scoring center who's been getting a bigger role of late. He had two assists last Thursday against Chicago and over the past three games has averaged around 16 minutes and more than four shots on goal per game. There's quite of upside to be had against the Blackhawks, who have lost seven straight.

WING

Alexander Radulov, DAL vs. CLS ($6,700): The big Russian winger is expected to be activated and play against Columbus, and will likely return to his usual spot on the top line with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. The Stars did score four goals against Nashville with Benn and Seguin on separate lines, but they lost so some changes can be expected. Prior to his injury, Radulov had scored three goals in five games and should continue where he left off. He's on pace to have his best season ever in the NHL.

Alex DeBrincat, CHI at CAR ($6,200): DeBrincat has not scored in seven straight games and the Blackhawks did not win any of them. That's not a coincidence. Even with a new coach, the problem remains the same: they're far too reliant on Toews, Kane, Keith and Seabrook, and their goaltending demands a lot from their relatively thin offense. Good thing the Hurricanes have allowed 18 goals in their past five games, and DeBrincat scored two goals against them last season.

Jake Virtanen, VAN at NYR ($4,700): He's scored a goal in two consecutive games and riding shotgun – how fitting, considering his nickname – on Elias Pettersson's wing. When the top line failed to get going it was Nikolay Goldobin who sat, and Virtanen's speed complements the Alien's ability to find open teammates. Virtanen had six shots on goal and skated more than 20 minutes against Buffalo, the most in his career. Henrik Lundqvist won't make it easy, but the Rangers defense has been woeful.

DEFENSE

P.K. Subban, NSH at ANA ($5,600): You get an elite defenseman for a decent price, and one who has an assist in two straight games on a team that has won five straight. The Ducks are hanging in there but it won't be long before they implode during the season; in fact, the only reason they haven't is because of John Gibson. The Ducks are 10th in penalties taken and their penalty kill ranks 16th. The Preds are going to have a good hunt.

Derrick Pouliot, VAN at NYR ($3,800): There's a reason I call him poo-poo Pouliot, but as long as he gets to play on the top power play unit, he has value. The Canucks might be feeling a little tired playing their fourth straight road game, but the Rangers penalty kill is 21st in the league, so it's even more important to take advantage of the opportunities. Pouliot has at least two shots on goal in each of his past five games. Brandon Montour ($3,500) is the only other worthwhile option in the $3,000 range.
