DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

With seven games on the NHL schedule, it's one of the busier Sundays of the early season. The featured contests at DraftKings consist of the six evening games, which includes six teams playing the second leg of a back-to-back set.

GOALIE

Braden Holtby, WAS vs. ARI ($8,200): The Coyotes enter following a 4-0 loss in Pittsburgh on Saturday and are playing their third road game in four nights. Holtby has stopped 75 of 78 shots through his past two outings and owns a career 128-44-16 record, .925 save percentage and 2.21 GAA at Capital One Arena.

CENTER

Aleksander Barkov, FLA vs. OTT ($6,200): This is a soft matchup for Barkov and the Panthers, as Ottawa has allowed three goals or more in 10 of its past 11 games and 49 total during the defensive skid. Barkov found the back of the net against the Islanders on Saturday and checks out as a high-floor, high-ceiling option given his go-to role consisting of 22:53 of ice time per game with 4:48 on the power play.

Nicklas Backstrom, WAS vs. ARI ($5,600): As noted, this schedule spot sets up nicely for the Caps, and Backstrom sports a four-game point streak consisting of a tally, four helpers and three power-play points. This salary also doesn't equate to his team-high 3.09 points per 60 minutes over the past three seasons.

WING

Brad Marchand, BOS vs. VGK ($6,400): This is a manageable salary for Marchand, who's coming off a two-assist showing against Toronto on Saturday and draws the Golden Knights on the second leg of a back-to-back road set. Marchand has also clicked with linemates Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak for an impressive 5.42 goals per 60 minutes while driving possession with a 58.6 Corsi For percentage at five-on-five dating back to the beginning of last season.

Evander Kane, SJ vs. CGY ($5,400): With just a single goal on 48 shots through his past 13 games, Kane is ripe for statistical correction. He's attempting 22.44 shots per 60 minutes and also draws the Flames on the second leg of a back-to-back on the road.

Nikolaj Ehlers, WPG vs. NJD ($5,300): The Dane has scored in consecutive games but still owns an unsustainably low 8.6 shooting percentage. He projects to play in a top-line role alongside Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler, and the trio has generated a respectable 14.08 high-danger scoring chances per hour while boasting a 54.7 Corsi For percentage at five-on-five.

DEFENSE

Keith Yandle, FLA vs. OTT ($6,100): With a scoresheet appearance in 11 of his past 12 games for three goals, 11 assists, seven power-play points, 35 shots and 13 blocked shots, Yandle checks out as one of the most reliable defensemen going. He quarterbacks the No. 1 unit with the man advantage and is averaging a hefty 24:35 of ice time per contest. As noted, this also projects to be a cushy matchup against the Sens.

Samuel Girard, COL at EDM ($3,800): Projected to continue running the No. 1 power-play unit, Girard is an obvious value at this salary. He's recorded a respectable two assists, six shots and five blocked shots through his past three outings while logging 21:19 of ice time – including four minutes with the man advantage.
