DraftKings NHL: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Jimmy Howard, DET vs. NYR ($7,600): So much for that proposed timeshare with Jonathan Bernier — Howard's rattled off three straight wins and started 11 of Detroit's 15 games. Howard's also been dominant against the Rangers in his career, with a .949 save percentage and 1.74 GAA. The Rangers are 23rd in goals scored without an elite offensive weapon.

CENTER

Evgeny Kuznetsov, WAS vs. CLS ($6,600): The Caps were lucky to escape Pittsburgh with a point despite being thoroughly outplayed, but Kuznetsov still managed to extend his point streak to five games. It's hard to believe the defending Cup champs would lay another egg, so against a vulnerable Columbus squad they should put in a much better performance. Kuznetsov had four points in four games against them last season.

Lias Andersson, NYR at DET ($3,500): If Brett Howden is sitting out another game, Andersson's a sneaky high-reward play. More (in)famous for tossing his silver medal into the stands at the 2018 World Juniors than being a top-10 pick, Anderson played 12 minutes with three shots on goal in his season debut after getting called up. He can be a high-end offensive player and the Wings have allowed the fifth-most goals.

WING

Mitch Marner, TOR vs. NJ ($6,900): Marner has three points in two games, both wins for the Leafs, and taking control of the offense in Auston Matthews' absence. Marner's track record against the Devils isn't good, but the Devils are five games into their road trip and their goaltending is a brewing problem; they lost 8-3 last Tuesday and 7-3 this Tuesday.

Mikko Rantanen, COL at WPG ($6,600): The Avalanche's top line has regressed but as his price drops, he becomes more of a value pick. He scored four points in four games against the Jets last season and faces Connor Hellebuyck at a time when he's struggling to stop pucks. Rantanen has been held without a point in just three games this season.

Robby Fabbri, STL vs. SJ ($4,000): He notched an assist in his season debut and scored his first goal two games later and has since seen his ice time climb to 14 minutes. He's playing on a scoring line on a team that can score a bunch of goals in a hurry, and he's clearly undervalued given his price. Injuries have really derailed his career but he remains a tantalizing top-six forward.

DEFENSE

Seth Jones, CLS at WAS ($5,600): For my money he's one of the top-5 defensemen in the league. He's scored four points and blocked nine shots in four games, and played 28 and 30 minutes in back-to-back nights on the road. Jones is a high-floor minutes eater who will see tons of minutes and blocked shots against the Caps.

Matt Dumba, MIN at ANA ($5,100): He's scored a point in three straight games and the Ducks are really struggling with just two wins in their last 10 games. Paired with the steady Ryan Suter, it has given Dumba free reign to do as he pleases. He's by far the most dynamic defenseman on their blue line and arguably their most important given his unique skill set. He scored two goals in three games against the Ducks last season.
