Past Fantasy Outlooks
2008
2007
Brett Wetterich burst upon the scene two years ago with a win at the Byron Nelson Championship. He followed that up with a solid Sophomore season were he earned over $2 million. Wetterich has yet to find the consistency that would bring him to the next level, but he's got the game to win any given week. Last year he failed to get a victory, but he did finish runner-up at WGC CA Championship. 2008 should be similar to previous years for Wetterich, he'll miss plenty of cuts, but he'll show up big a couple times also. On February 11, 2008 Wetterich was diagnosed as having a torn labrum (shoulder). A second opinion is being sought and the possibilities are therapy or arthroscopic surgery. Wetterich sees Dr. James Andrews, prominent orthopaedic surgeon on March 11 for a decision on treatment. If he has surgery he could be out for five or six months. Wetterich has been playing regularly since early March seemingly without impairment.
Wetterich's 2007 is going to be a tough one to predict. On the other hand, there's the though that he simply got hot for a few weeks last year and rode that streak for the rest of the year. On the other hand, maybe getting his first win threw him off his game for a while. It does happen, quite often actually. A young player winning early can cause problems soon after. Just ask J.B. Holmes. The reason Wetterich should play well in 2007 is the way he finished 2006. With no momentum coming out of the Ryder Cup he managed a sixth-place finish at the WGC American Express Championships and later earned a runner-up finish at the Chrysler Championship. Those two events should be enough proof that this kid is more than just a flash in the pan. That said, he set the bar pretty high last year and might have a tough time reaching those heights again in 2007.
