Cut from practice squad
The Bills cut Fournette from their practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Fournette provided depth behind lead back James Cook in Week 16 when Ty Johnson was out with a shoulder injury and again in Week 18 when Latavius Murray was a healthy scratch. The Bills then left Fournette on the practice squad for the wild-card round of the playoffs, with Johnson serving as the No. 2 RB and Murray the No. 3 in a 31-17 win over Pittsburgh. Fournette turns 29 on Thursday and will need to battle for a roster spot next summer if he wants to continue playing in the NFL.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
No visit with Buffalo
Fournette did not visit with Buffalo on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Fournette still reportedly has interest from several teams and is in great shape, according to Pelissero. He's coming off an inefficient 2022 season with the Buccaneers, during which he averaged only 3.5 yards per carry with just one gain of more than 20 yards, but he could still be useful in a short-yardage role. Fournette's last known visit came with the Patriots in mid-July, but with injuries to backfields piling up around the league, he could still get an opportunity in 2023.

Fournette is a free agent after being released by the rebuilding Buccaneers. At 28, it would be surprising if Fournette were truly done playing, but he might have damaged his market somewhat last year after appearing overweight in the offseason and then arriving to training camp out of shape. Fournette began the year as the starter, but the Buccaneers began to phase him out in favor of third-round pick Rachaad White by Week 10, and the two mostly split snaps thereafter, with Fournette averaging just 3.5 yards per carry for the season. Still just two years removed from producing 1,266 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games, Fournette might need to try out for a contract closer to training camp, proving he's in shape and ready to work before a team signs him.
