Set to be released by Denver
The Broncos will release Simmons on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old safety had one year remaining on the four-year, $61 million contract that he signed in 2021 after being franchise-tagged for a second straight offseason. Simmons has long been regarded as one of the league's better safeties, with multiple interceptions in each of his eight pro seasons (30 overall) and at least 69 tackles seven seasons in a row. He may be past his prime but shouldn't have a hard time finding another starting job.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could thrive in Indy
Simmons, who remains a free agent, could be a good candidate to sign with Indianapolis, Nick Shook of NFL.com opines.
ANALYSIS
Shook points out that despite Simmons being 30, he has plenty left in the tank and is capable of offering whatever team he joins a big defensive boost. With the Colts slated to currently start one-time seventh-round pick Rodney Thomas at free safety, Shook notes Simmons could be an ideal complement to augment a secondary that also managed to re-sign Kenny Moore this offseason.

The veteran safety missed five games last season due to injury, but that didn't stop him from pulling down a career-high six interceptions while maintaining a tackle pace that would have netted him 90 stops on 1,000 snaps. Simmons has 20 picks the last four seasons as one of the league's top ballhawks at his position, and new defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has spent the last few years getting the most out of Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson. Given that his contract has little remaining guaranteed money on it, Simmons figures to be playing for a new deal in 2023.
