Knee - ACL
October 22, 2020
Iloka (knee) was placed on injured reserve by the Vikings on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
This is a rough break for the veteran, as Iloka suffered a torn ACL during Wednesday's practice, per Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Iloka will now likely need surgery and hit the rehab process, as it's unclear if he'll play in the NFL again. With both he and Myles Dorn (undisclosed) residing on IR, Josh Metellus is on the only health depth safety currently on the roster.

Iloka has become a steady source of tackles as the Bengals' starting free safety, notching 70-plus tackles in three of the last four seasons, including 80 in 2017. Those tackles haven't materialized in too many big plays, however -- he has no career sacks and only two forced fumbles, both of those coming 2013. He's had eight interceptions over his six-year pro career, with no touchdowns. You can expect more of the same in 2018, presuming that he can stay on the field.
After missing four games in 2015, Iloka started every game last season, matching his career highs in tackles (74) and interceptions (three). Only 27, Iloka has the experience and ability to be a major playmaker on defense in 2017, even after undergoing minor shoulder surgery in the offseason. As long as he can maintain his health, expect Iloka to reach 70 tackles for the third time in four seasons.
2015 was a down year for Iloka after he recorded career highs in nearly every statistical category in 2014. He missed four games due to injury and recorded just 47 tackles, one interception, and four passes defensed on the season. He’s still the clear starter at safety in Cincinnati, and, if he’s able to stay healthy in 2016, he could return to his 2014 form, which saw him record 74 tackles, three interceptions, and 10 passes defensed.
Iloka started all 16 games at strong safety last season and finished with 66 tackles (41 solo), two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one interception. He enters this term as Cincinnati's first-choice next to free safety Reggie Nelson and will look to build upon a steady showing last campaign.
A fifth-round pick in this year's draft, Iloka will begin his career as a back up, but has a chance to see playing time in his first NFL season.
