Ratley was cut by the Vikings on Tuesday, Craig Peters of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was signed to the Vikings' practice squad Dec. 16, but failed to crack the active roster before being cut Tuesday. Ratley last played in the NFL in 2020, reeling in four catches for 63 yards on 10 targets in five games with the Giants.

Wide receiver breakouts were the big story of Week 5, but not all were backed by the heavy usage that portends continued success. Chase Claypool, however, was rewarded with more playing time after halftime.

Increased opportunity on tap
WRCleveland Browns
September 30, 2019
Ratley, who's received praise from the coaching staff for his versatility, could be in line for increased opportunity as soon as a Week 5 game against the 49ers with the availability of Jarvis Landry (concussion) and Rashard HIggins (knee) in question for the contest, Nick Shook of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Ratley was the target on an Odell Beckham pass attempt off a double reverse in Sunday's win over the Ravens, and although he failed to come down with the ball in that instance, he's highly regarded by the coaching staff. The 2018 sixth-round pick has corralled eight of 13 targets for 103 yards through four games, and head coach Freddie Kitchens praised Ratley for his ability to play all three receiver positions following the victory over Baltimore. The second-year wideout has immersed himself into the playbook since the offseason; his preparation is potentially set to pay off against San Francisco if he's elevated to a No. 2 or No. 3 role, even as fellow wideout Antonio Callaway prepares to make his season debut after serving his four-game suspension.

2018
For a second straight season, Ratley was on the fringes of the wide receiver depth chart for Cleveland in 2019. His lone highlight was a 46-yard touchdown catch -- his only score -- in Week 16. He had 12 catches, one fewer than he had in 2018, but showed big-play ability (16.7 YPC). The Browns still don't have a reliable No. 3 wide receiver, so Ratley remains in the mix for that job, along with KhaDarel Hodge and Rashard Higgins. An expected change in the offense under a new head coach, the addition of tight end Austin Hooper, and the presence of pass-catching running back Kareem Hunt figures to put a cap on production from whoever emerges as the Browns' third wideout.
A sixth-round pick in 2018, Ratley appeared in 13 games and finished with 13 catches on 20 targets in his debut season with the Browns. Ratley is known for his speed, registering a 4.45 40-yard dash time at the Texas A&M pro day, but rarely saw opportunities to showcase that on offense. The 24-year-old won a roster spot as a depth option among a top-heavy Browns receiving corps.
While Ratley was Cleveland's sixth-round pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, a roster spot is anything but a guarantee. The Browns have numerous options at wide receiver who are vying for a spot, but Ricardo Louis' (neck) season-ending injury does open the door a bit for the rookie.
