Carter was a four-star recruit from the Class of 2017 and accumulated 53 carries for 252 yards and three touchdowns and six receptions for 31 yards and another score during his true freshman campaign at Texas. He was expected to push for a bigger role in 2018 but instead plummeted on the depth chart and failed to muster even one carry. Because he played less than four games this past season, Carter was able to take a redshirt and will have three years of eligibility remaining. Sam Houston State's status as an FCS program will allow Carter to compete immediately.
