Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2017
Dowdle had an up and down junior season for the Gamecocks. He notched three 100-yard rushing outputs over the first seven games of the season, but managed just 173 rushing yards total over the final five contests of the year. Ty'Son Williams left for BYU as a graduate transfer, but Mon Denson and A.J. Turner will still receive touches out of the backfield. Dowdle did average 5.4 yards per tote in 2018, though, and remains the starter. South Carolina has a difficult schedule, including matchups with Alabama, Clemson and Georgia, which won't help Dowdle's cause, particularly if he ends up splitting carries.
Dowdle did not see any touches through the first four contests of the 2016 campaign, but he came on strong once he saw game action, including scoring in six of seven games at one point during the middle of the season. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry as a freshman, and will start out as the bell cow for the Gamecocks heading into 2017. However, he may have some competition. North Carolina transfer Ty'Son Williams is an even bigger back and has drawn rave reviews. In addition, A.J. Turner should also see touches as a change-of-pace back. Dowdle also seemed to struggle against better defenses last season. A combination of inconsistency and too many mouths to feed may end up limiting Dowdle's upside.
