Dropping down pecking order
August 12, 2017
Hicks appears to have fallen behind Gus Edwards and Trey Sneed on the depth chart, Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hicks struggled with some personal issues in 2016, but has returned to school for his senior campaign. Unfortunately, he took reps with the second-team offense during Saturday's practice, while the likes of Edwards, Sneed and Robert Martin all saw reps with the first team. Hicks did have a highlight of his own during the session, rumbling for a 66-yard touchdown with the second-team offense against the second-team defense. He has a history of production out of the backfield, but it's unclear whether he'll be a consistent contributor for the Scarlett Knights in his final college season.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Hicks has been an impact player since arriving on campus in 2014, averaging 6.38 yards per carry as a freshman. Though his per-carry production took a slight dip in 2015 (5.18 YPC), Hicks had two other legitimate running threats to compete against and Rutgers itself had one of the more stagnant offensive systems in the nation, ranking 92nd in plays per game. This year, Hicks will have one less running back to worry about with Paul James gone, and he’ll be playing in a more up-tempo power spread system under new offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer. Hicks won’t be Rutgers’ top back, as that distinction will likely belong to Robert Martin, but he should still be good for 150+ carries with good per-carry production in 2016.
