Declares for draft
Shoulder
January 17, 2021
Sermon (shoulder) announced Sunday via his personal Twitter account that he will forgo his remaining eligibility at Ohio State to enter the 2021 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
While Master Teague missed time during the back end of the season for the Buckeyes, Sermon emerged as Ohio State's primary back over the stretch run. The transfer from Oklahoma was at his best in the Big Ten title game and the College Football Playoff semifinal, amassing a combined 589 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns in wins over Northwestern and Clemson. Sermon couldn't keep the momentum going in the Buckeyes' loss to Alabama in the national title game Jan. 11, picking up just one carry before exiting with a shoulder injury. His decision to bolt for the NFL rather than returning to school for a fifth year hardly comes as a surprise.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2020
2019
Carries are up for grabs in the Ohio State backfield with J.K. Dobbins gone and Master Teague working his way back from a spring Achilles injury, and it appears Sermon will get the first crack. Sermon is a talented back whose best season (2018) consisted of 947 yards and 13 touchdowns on 5.8 YPC, but injuries have been a part of his story too and he’s never had more than 164 carries in a season. His 2019 campaign ended with an LCL injury, but he was back to working out this spring, so Sermon should be ready to go for Week 1. The RB1 in Columbus is always a bankable fantasy asset and Sermon will be no different provided he can stay healthy. However, that injury history should be baked into his draft acquisition price, so investors may not have to risk a first- or second-rounder on him.
Elevated to lead back status in 2018 due to Rodney Anderson's injury, Sermon did all he could to convert on opportunities with a team-leading 13 touchdowns. Sermon did split carries with the impressive freshman Kennedy Brooks who has been cleared to return to the team for 2019. Expect both Sermon and Brooks to be one of the best one-two punches in all of college football with Oklahoma projected to have one of the most productive units in the nation. Sermon should have a fruitful fantasy season behind a great offensive line.
