DFS College Basketball: Sunday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Sunday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

A six-pack of games heavy on Big Ten action headlines Sunday's slate, with DraftKings offering up a $2,000 top prize in it's $19k Pull Up Jumper.

Targets

1. Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa is always a feature when its part of the DFS slate, and Sunday is no different, as the Hawkeyes check in with the highest implied total of the slate by a 10-point margin. Luka Garza ($9,400 DK, $9,200 FD) is always in play and essentially matchup-proof, especially going up against a Penn State team that ranks No. 318 in the country in two-point field goal defense. If you're trying to fade Garza for some type of GPP angle, Joe Wieskamp ($8,300 DK, $7,200 FD) and Jack Nunge ($5,100 DK, $5,100 FD) off the bench are the players to pivot to. I like Jordan Bohannon ($5,600 DK) as a mid-tier option, while C.J. Fredrick ($3,600 DK, $4,500 FD) returned with 31 minutes Thursday against Wisconsin and provides solid salary relief.

2. Quentin Grimes, G, Houston ($7,700 DK, $7,800 FD)

Grimes is leading the Cougars in usage rate and fantasy points per game over the last 10 contests, yet has just the third-highest price on a team with the second-highest implied total of the day. While the shooting volume alone is enough to carry his fantasy score, he also produces well in rebounds (6.3 rpg), assists (2.1 apg) and steals (1.2 spg). Cincinnati plays at the second-fastest pace in the AAC this year, so there will be plenty of opportunities for those counting stats to rack up.

3. Ryan Young, F, Northwestern ($4,600 DK)

Value is hard to come by on this slate, so we need to get creative. Normally players going against the Badgers are auto-fades due to their slow tempo, ball security and overall defensive prowess, but that hasn't exactly been the case lately. Nate Reuvers has been in a funk for several months, and while he creates offense, Micah Potter has been a defensive liability to put it mildly. Suddenly, neither have been strong enough to get a contested rebound. In steps a post player like Young at a cheap price. He's started the last four games and is third on the team with a 20.1 percent usage rate over his last 10 games. There's foul trouble risk, but this is the price one typically pays for deploying a player like Garza.

Fades

1.Aaron Wiggins, G/F, Maryland ($8,000 DK, $6,500 FD)

Wiggins is coming off one of his best fantasy days of the year against a woeful Nebraska team, but back-to-back games against the Big Ten bottom dwellers have caused his price to rise to one of the highest points of the year. He now goes up against a Rutgers team that sits at No. 13 overall in the nation in KenPom's defensive efficiency, so it's no surprise to see the Terps within a point of the lowest implied total on the slate.

2. Chase Audige, G, Northwestern ($7,900 DK)

I mentioned earlier that the Badgers may not be the DFS kryptonite we once thought of them as, but that's no reason to roster a player against them at his absolute peak price point. The volume will be there for the Northwestern usage leader, but not the possessions. The cost here is simply too prohibitive to utilize the guard in anything other than a contrarian strategy.

3. Bo Hodges, G/F, Butler ($7,200 DK)

Hodges is no longer a secret after his scorching start to the season that began on Jan. 30, but after injuring his calf against Marquette and getting limited to 7.0 DK points, the risk is too high to roll him out again, especially when the implied total is nothing to write home about. You'll have to take a look at the injury report to see if Hodges even suits up, as is the case with Byrce Nze (groin). If anything, perhaps a risky value play in Bryce Golden ($5,300 DK) opens up, though he'll have to deal with Zach Freemantle in the post.
