NHL: Lord Stanley Beckons for Bolts or Hawks

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Third Cup Final in the last six years. Ninth playoff series win in three years. How is that possible in the salary cap era? The Hawks have figured it out. #Dynasty.
  • Five goals in his last four games. His two quick goals took the air out of the arena. And the Ducks. Exactly why did they leave Jonathan Toews so freaking alone in the slot on that first goal? Clutch doesn't even come close.

  • Holy shades of the L.A. Kings. And Detroit Red Wings. The Ducks have laid an egg in three-straight Game 7s at home. They blew a 3-2 series lead each time. This will be a tough one to swallow.
  • Are the Hawks the next Kings? They were in danger of missing the playoffs just three weeks before the end of the season. They were in a wild card spot and their leading scorer was out with a busted clavicle. But look what happens if you can just get into the postseason ...
  • Pick a duo -- any duo: Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr, Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier, or Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. That choice is getting harder and harder, isn't it?
  • Five bucks the summer of 2015 includes a massive debate between Fredrick Andersen and John Gibson. Marian Hossa's goal was the 13th goal Mr. Andersen had allowed in the last 60 shots he'd faced. That's a sub-.800 save percentage ...
  • Duncan Keith logged a whopping 230 minutes, 48 seconds of ice time in seven games. You'd never know he double-shifted the third period -- he didn't even look like he'd broken a sweat. He's an absolute beast.
  • Ryan Getzlaf or Rick Nash? I know who'd I take, 99 times out of 100. You?
  • Meet the modern-day Bobby Baun. But Baun was able to carry the Leafs to the Cup on his broken ankle. Ryan McDonagh not so much.
  • Ben Bishop didn't have to steal a win against the Rangers -- team D was the reason for his success. But he'll need to up the ante against the Blackhawks. Their offence is on a completely different plane ...
