NHL Playoff Observations -- Game 2 Saturday

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Five days ago, Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish conceded he might be "losing credibility." Hey -- Daryl Katz. Fire him. NOW. Before he screws up Connor McDavid, too. A team with three of the last five first overall picks (soon to be four-of-six) shouldn't still be this ugly.
  • Sidney Crosby got two goals, but I'm growing tired of the whining and crying, and the crummy body language, too. Leadership is all about sucking up your own frustrations and doing best by the team. Start showing it.

  • Sabres' GM Tim Murray just learned a lesson about disappointment and pettiness. Before the lottery, he said Jack Eichel would be an incredible "consolation" prize given his talents. But his bitterness about the lottery format making his Sabres "McDavid-less" just pissed off the second generational talent in the draft. Get on the phone RIGHT NOW. And bloody well apologize.
  • Jimmy Howard must really suck. Petr Mrazek is going back between the pipes for Game 3 after coughing up a hair ball Saturday.
  • Vladimir Tarasenko. Wow. I have to watch more Blues' games. That kid is incredible.
  • Connor McDavid. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers are building down the middle and that trio is impressive. Too bad they're rolling Ricky, Bubbles and Julian on the blue line and Uncle Si between the pipes. #NoHopeInSight
  • The Predators have a great blue line, but they're sunk without Shea Weber. The update from the team Wednesday could just be a formality -- they may need until then for the swelling to go down so they can get some imaging to confirm the worst. Sad, really.
  • Bob Hartley must have money to burn. He has now paid $75,000 in fines for "premeditated acts" in the last 15 months. Gulp. How long does it take you to make that kind of coin? Thought so.
  • Ondrej Pavelec sure looks good for a guy relegated to the bench earlier this season. No?
  • So ... where is James Wisniewski? Antoine Vermette? Mike Santorelli? I don't think general managers should be so eager to make trade-deadline deals next year. Just saying.
