Training Camp Notes: Ryan Tannehill On the Ropes

There was a lot to like about the Dolphins offense this offseason with DeVante Parker looking like a new man, and Jay Ajayi having locked down the tailback job. But Ryan Tannehill hurt his knee on a scramble Thursday morning, and there's a good chance he'll miss significant time - perhaps the entire year. Matt Moore was good down the stretch last year (8.3 YPA), but that was only three games, and the 32-year old journeyman is likely to be a significant downgrade from Tannehill who managed 7.7 YPA over 12 games in 2016.

Latavius Murray had a couple good workouts and feels he's close to returning from an ankle injury. Dalvin Cook has carved out a nice lead in the early-down back competition, but if Murray's healthy in the next couple weeks, he could make it interesting.

• For now, Rob Kelley is still slated to be the Redskins' starting back over Samaje Perine. How long that lasts is anyone's guess.

Jordan Reed's toe injury sidelined him in part due to a reaction to his stem-cell treatment for it. Reed isn't expected to be out for too long, but keep in mind the toe bothered him last year and obviously hasn't healed.

Corey Davis left Thursday's practice with a hamstring injury and went for an MRI. The Titans suddenly have a crowded receiving corps, so this could cost Davis early-season opportunities if it lingers through camp.

• Sterling Shepard underwent an MRI on his injured ankle and seems likely to miss at least some of the preseason. If the injury turns out to be significant, rookie TE Evan Engram could see more snaps in Shepard's place.

Kevin White had his best practice of the early preseason. White was the No. 7 overall pick two years ago, but injuries wiped out nearly the entirety of his career to date, and he struggled early in camp. The Bears need to find out what they have in him, so expect White to get his share of opportunities early on.

Breshad Perriman has been out with a hamstring injury, and the Ravens don't intend to rush him back. Perriman has elite speed (4.24 40) and uncanny size (6-2, 215) for a burner, so there's upside here if the light bulb goes on - even with two journeyman veterans (Mike Wallace, Jeremy Maclin) ostensibly blocking him.
