NHL Playoff Observations -- Conference Finals Monday

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Coincidence or not? Sidney Crosby sheds his jaw protector and goes two games without a point, the first time this season he's been held pointless for that duration of time. He looked ... average, at best.
  • The Kings scored 11 goals in five games against the Blues, 14 in seven against the Sharks and now three in two against the Hawks. Their average goals-per-game is on a serious decline. They'd better get serious about scoring goals when they return to La-La-Land.
  • Back to Sid. WTF happened on that whuff at the offensive blue line that gave Brad Marchand a freebie breakaway in the first 30 seconds of the game? Legs straight and flailing. No power. There has to be something seriously wrong.
  • How dangerous will the Blackhawks be when their big guns start scoring? Wow.
  • Brad Marchand's second goal came on a perfect shot ... the first one faced by Marc Andre Fleury. That first goal? Yup, it came on the first shot faced by Tomas Vokoun.
  • The Pens' D looks slower than molasses in January. So much for loading up the front end and hoping the back end doesn't get exposed.
  • Geez, it took a permanent injury to Marc Staal's eye to re-open the mandatory visor discussion. Let's hope they get it right this time. No other workplace I can think of lets their workers go without eye protection when it's so obviously required.
  • So, anyone else taking note of Nathan Horton's MVP-like performance? He's second on his team with 17 points (seven goals, 10 helpers) and his plus-19 is out of this world. I just have to compare that to Sid ... he's minus-4 in 12 games. Ouch.
  • Jonathan Quick will be fine. He'll be back in there. So will Tomas Vokoun, but for a very different reason. WTF MAF!? Where did your game go?
