Just a few things that caught my eye:
- Abuse of an official? I guess I went to bed too early. You're a bad, bad boy, Jonathan Quick. I wonder if they have the onions to lay down some supplemental discipline under Rule 39.5. It's a possibility when a game misconduct is called for abuse of an official.
- Uh-oh. Henrik Lundqvist has an injured shoulder and is undergoing evaluation Sunday night. The Rangers can kiss that series goodbye without the King.
- Ryan Callahan's goal Sunday afternoon was a beauty. He picked Brad Marchand's pocket, outskated Dougie Hamilton and then waited out Tuukka Rask to pop it into the gaping net.
- You know things are serious when Sergei Gonchar lays out James Neal along the side wall. He's not exactly considered to be tough. Or recently, even all that interested. Playing against your former team might make a difference, I suppose.
- Valtteri Filppula looked like a world beater when he split the D and went five hole while airborne. That's a kind of intensity and engagement he just didn't show during the regular season.
- Henrik Zetterberg sure is a difference maker. The shortened season was just what Big Zee needed. He might only be 32, but there are a lot of miles on that body.
- Cory Conacher looks like a natural alongside Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek. Make a mental note for next year's draft -- a breakout may be coming.
- I've been dismissive of Jonathan Ericsson before, but he changed my mind Saturday. Not only did he and Niklas Kronwall lay down suffocating D on Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa, but Ericsson threw down a amazing stretch pass to Johan Franzen who went on to score the insurance goal. Well done.
- Two games, two goals, including Sunday's sweet one where he picked up the pass between his legs and finished it off. Torey Krug is just 5-9 and 180, but he plays a smart skilled game and he's not intimidated by the size of the stage or the success of the stars he's facing. He's a great sleeper for next season.
- David Krejci has 16 points, including 11 assists, in nine games this postseason. He's only been held off the score sheet once in that span. Keeper leaguers need to leverage this performance in a trade. He's a 60-point, playmaking center whose playoff excellence might make net you a nice return.
