Sunday NFL Notes

Maurice Jones-Drew caved and reported to Jaguars camp. He won't start Week 1 - more likely seeing work at the third-down back - but there's little doubt he'll carry a heavy workload for most of the year.

Domenik Hixon was named the Giants' No. 3 WR. Don't read too much into this - he's got tenure and respect from the coaches. But when push comes to shove, we have to imagine they want talented second-round pick Rueben Randle to fill the role.

Hakeem Nicks didn't practice. Apparently, he still has some pain in his surgically repaired foot. Nonetheless, he vows to be ready for Wednesday night's season opener.

Jason Witten (spleen) got some practice in Sunday and has a chance to play in Wednesday's game.

Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is not practicing and will be evaluated during the week. If he can't go, DeAngelo Williams makes a nice start against the Bucs.

Isaiah Pead was named the Rams' No. 2 RB. This wasn't in much doubt, though third-stringer Darryl Richardson had a strong camp.

Steven Smith was named the Rams' No. 3 WR. He'll battle with Brandon Gibson and Danny Amendola for targets.

Miles Austin and Dez Bryant returned to practice, should be ready for Week 1.
