NHL Playoff Hockey Observations -- Sunday

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Dave Bolland, one of the Hawks' top-two PK men up-front, got to kill off his own penalty at the end of the game while Kris Versteeg cooled his jets in the box. Maybe they should add radial keratotomy to the NHL referee's medical coverage for next year.
  • Michael Leighton didn't exactly win the game for the Flyers -- the Canadiens lost it all by themselves. It's easy for a guy to get a shutout if you shoot from outside Walla-Walla. Crash the net, boys. Crash the net.
  • P.K. Subban finally looked like a 21-year-old rookie. But then again, so did a lot of his teammates.
  • Seriously, the NHL has to lower the microphone on the post-game news conference table. Jacques Martin looked like Yoda with a giant foam ball for a mouth. Wonder how Napoleon -- I mean, Gary -- would have looked behind there.
  • Chris Pronger could be a huge loss for the Flyers. There's a huge drop-off from their top-four to Ryan Coburn and Lukas Krajicek, who combined for a minus-28 in the regular season. By the way, Pronger was plus-22 in the regular season. That's a swing of 50 goals. Fifty goals!
  • Was it me or did Joe Thornton look like he'd found another gear in the first couple periods?
  • Ville Leino was a preseason fave on most fantasy sleeper lists but didn't "fit" with the Red Wings. He sure looks like he's found a fit with the Flyers. Those Wings sure know how to scout.
  • You know how series-losing NHL teams always gather at center ice and salute their fans for their support? So why didn't the "great" Roberto Luongo and the rest of the Canucks do the same? I'm liking this guy less and less each day...
