NHL Playoff Hockey Observations -- Saturday and Sunday

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Daniel Briere: power forward? The little man left both Bruin defenders jock-less when he split them like a cheap suit on that tying goal Saturday afternoon. They won't let it happen again; trust me.
  • Joe Thornton scores just his second goal in 20 playoff contests on a completely fluky bounce off Brian Rafalski's leg. See what happens when you go to the net, Joe?
  • Michael Cammalleri kicked up that second-period dribbler like a smooth-fielding shortstop and then slapped his own seeing-eye single up the middle to push the Habs ahead for good. Underrated.
  • A hundred grand worth of Jaroslav Halak jerseys were apparently sold the day after that miraculous Game 7 win. I guess there will be some unhappy Montreal fans next year when they trade the guy away. The Habs still have too much invested in Carey Price and one of those two has to go. Mind you, it'll be a lot harder to get rid of him if he pulls of another Montreal miracle... Ovechkin first, Crosby second?
  • The Canucks weren't even that good Saturday night and they won 5-1. Guess Patrick Kane should keep his mouth shut.
  • Two more injuries -- Marco Sturm and Marc-Andre Bergeron. Is it just me or there are there more injuries this postseason than in previous years?
  • No wonder the New Jersey Devils are so damn good. Adam Henrique was picked up 82nd overall in 2008 and last year, he could have easily been the Memorial Cup MVP. This year, his offensive game has exploded and he's schooling the OHL as the Windsor Spitfires surge to another Mem Cup appearance. No wonder Team Canada junior captain Patrice Cormier was expendable. I'd rather have Henrique.
