NHL Playoff Hockey Observations -- Saturday

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • Selfish, egotistical and lazy -- common thesaurus entries for Alexander Semin. He was the poster child for Don Cherry's typical Euro-trash vitriol on Saturday night. And Cherry wasn't even on the air for that game.
  • Two shots, two goals. We know he's done in D.C. but is Jose Theodore done in the NHL, too? The collapse may be complete.
  • The Thomas Vanek board slam didn't look all that bad but falling onto all fours when he tried to get into the bench sure did. At least he was seen limping later on but then again, so was Milan Michalek. Let's hope the miracles of cortisone work for the amorous Austrian.
  • In today's fast-paced game, why the frack is L.A. using a stationary breakout? Note to self -- if it didn't work in Game 1 it ain't likely to work in Game 2.
  • You think Jonathan Quick was distracted by the hot chicks behind the net on that second goal? I know a coach who banned budding puck bunnies from behind the net of his 13-year-old's hockey team. Maybe the Kings should consider the same.
  • John Carlson is a 200-foot beast and he's barely 20. But the kid really needs an image consultant -- he looks like he's drunk, stoned or both every time he's caught on camera. Open your eyes, John, open your eyes. At least try to look intense.
