Playoff Observations -- Wednesday Night

Just a few things that caught my eye:

  • I completely forgot Mark Recchi was in these playoffs; how about you?
  • I got a fever and the only prescription is MORE COWBELL. Those Canes' fans sure do a good job channelling Will Ferrell, bare midriffs and all. Shudder.
  • Shaone Morrison is one tough ombre. I didn't think he'd get up after being plastered into the back boards by Chris Kunitz. Talk about being stopped dead in your tracks. But there he was later, dishing out the same tough love to Sidney Crosby. He plays a simple game and that's just what makes him special. Ditto Zdeno Chara.
  • Eric Staal has taken it to another level. He played (a bruised) Energizer Bunny -- he just kept going and going and going no matter how much lumber (or composite) big Chara laid on him.
  • Evgeni Malkin woke up. He still does one too many between the legs dangle move for me but they worked tonight.
  • Reject's revenge = Jussi Jokinen. I've said it before but it bears repeating again.
  • Paging Marian Hossa and Ray Whitney -- please report to the scorer's table at some point during the second round... please?
  • Finally, the truth about lower body injuries. "Maybe it's just a burning sensation when you pee," said Sami Salo after a "ginger" skate on Wednesday. Doubt he'll be back next game but I love the sarcasm.
