The Associated Press reported today that Cutler put his Denver area house up for sale. This would naturally lead one to believe that he expects to be playing elsewhere in 2009. But when you consider that he's asking $2 million for a home he bought at $1.34 million in August, 2006, he's not even being serious in this market.

It's like some owner in your fantasy league saying Pujols is on the block. Then when you ask him about it, he wants Jose Reyes and Tim Lincecum. Almost any asset is theoretically available for double its value.

What a team owner who needs a quarterback should do is initiate trade talks, then transfer the two million to an undercover third party to buy the house. Then Cutler will already have one foot out the door. The owner can always dump the house for $1 million later - a small price to pay for a franchise quarterback.
