The Downside to Having Andrea Bargnani as Your Starting Center

When the Raptors traded Jermaine O'Neal for Shawn Marion, they got more dynamic offensively. But they had absolutely no answer for Shaq who went 20-for-25 against them tonight.

Charlie Zegers and I discussed this possibility in the Give and Go a couple weeks ago:


I like what the Raptors did, too, and I agree they might switch up their offensive and defensive assignments, but who's going to guard a real post presence like Yao, Dwight Howard or even Pau Gasol?

I didn't mention Shaq because Amare Stoudemire was healthy at the time (and I thought the Suns should phase Shaq out). Shaq, for his part, thinks he can do this against anyone, and who knows? Maybe he's finally healthy and without competition for low-post touches. I think it had more to do with the lack of muscle on defense.

Yao Ming will get his crack at the Raptors this week, too.
