Quarterback Rankings for 2009

If Kurt Warner returns, and Anquan Boldin and the Cardinals work out their contract issues, where among quarterbacks do you rank Kurt Warner? Ahead of Peyton Manning? Tom Brady? Tony Romo? If you had to draft today, what would your quarterback rankings look like, assuming Warner was coming back?

Here are my top-10

  1. Drew Brees - think what he could do if Reggie Bush, Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey ever stayed healthy
  2. Jay Cutler - Cutler, Eddie Royal, Tony Scheffler and Brandon Marshall should only get better. New head coach Josh McDaniels will not be afraid to sling it
  3. Peyton Manning - still has the highest floor of anyone other than Brees. Look for Reggie Wayne to become Marvin Harrison and Anthony Gonzalez to become Wayne
  4. Kurt Warner - age and injury concerns put him behind Manning and Cutler, but if he returns, and so does Boldin, he could finish at No. 1
  5. Tom Brady - if I had to pick now, I'd take a chance on Brady at No. 5. Randy Moss is still around, and Brady's rehab looks like it's back on track.
  6. Tony Romo - if Terrell Owens is gone, it remains to be seen whether Roy Williams can stay healthy and be a consistent No. 1
  7. Philip Rivers - as long as Norv Turner's around, I think the team will prefer to run it. Even last year, Rivers only attempted 478 passes (though he got a lot done with those attempts)
  8. Matt Ryan - if he was this good as a rookie, it's scary to think what he might do in Year 2, especially if the team were to add a quality pass-catching tight end
  9. Aaron Rodgers - Rodgers should only get better in his second season as a starter, and he's still got plenty of quality targets
  10. Matt Schaub - needs to stay healthy, but could easily finish top-5 if he plays 16 games

This has to be the deepest top-10 at the position that I can remember. All of these guys are capable of 30 TDs and 4,000 yards if they stay healthy. Also, Carson Palmer and Matt Hasselbeck should be healthy, and Donovan McNabb, Ben Roethlisberger, Chad Pennington, Eli Manning and even Tyler Thigpen (should he keep the job) are viable options.
