Training Camp Notes: Ride the Siemian

- Trevor Siemian, not Mark Sanchez or Paxton Lynch, looks as if he's in line to be the Week 1 starter for the defending Super Bowl champions. Siemian will start Saturday night and has received first team snaps all week in practice. Having being with the team last season Siemian more familiar with the offense than the other two quarterbacks and Denver is still in "win now" mode considering how good their defense is. If Siemian shows he can effectively run the first team offense Saturday he should leapfrog Sanchez when the next depth chart is released. Owners is two-quarterback leagues and super-flex leagues should pay close attention Saturday and grab Siemain now if possible.

- Sammy Watkins may play in his first preseason action Saturday against the Giants. He's come along nicely recovering from his foot fracture and appears on track to be ready for the start of the season. A fantasy stud on the rise, Watkins scored six touchdowns over his final six games and recorded four 100-yard games over that span as well. His rapport with Tyrod Taylor vastly improved over the second half of the season and he could reward owners if he can stay healthy 16 games.

- Steve Smith returned to practice Thursday while Victor Cruz is expected to return either Friday or Monday. Both are coming off significant injuries and at this point it'd be a surprise to see either of them play 14-16 games this season. Still, each carries their own upside with Cruz an ideal fit to work in the slot with Odell Beckham and Sterling Shepard on the outsides while Smith would likely see a ton of targets in a offense that's very thin at wide receiver. Monitor how much each is doing at practice and how they respond to their return to the field.

- Dion Lewis may not practice until Week 1 of the regular season. If that is the case it would mean Lewis could possibly be placed on the PUP list for the regular season and miss the first four games of the regular season. A healthy Lewis would have a lot of upside the first four weeks playing with Jimmy Garoppolo as a safety valve for the inexperienced quarterback to dump the ball off too. While this timetable is in no way set in concrete, it's concerning that Lewis doesn't have a date in mind to return to practice.

- Cameron Artis-Payne (no relation, FYI) may see a heavier workload this season lessening the heavy lifting for Jonathan Stewart. While this seems like good news for Artis-Payne, it's worth noting that Mike Tolbert and Fozzy Whittaker are still around to vulture both carries and touchdowns. Still, it would appear Artis-Payne should benefit the most from this news making him a player to keep an eye on once the regular season starts.
