Cleveland Cavaliers
2019 Fantasy Outlook
McKinnie finished with 4.7 points and 3.4 rebounds in 13.9 minutes per game during his first season with Golden State in 2018-19. He shot 48.7 percent from the floor and 35.6 percent from deep. McKinnie had a very small role off the bench, but his playing time is set to increase tremendously this year. Once buried on the depth chart behind loaded talent at both forward positions, McKinnie is likely to operate as the Warriors' starting small forward now that Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala are no longer on the roster. McKinnie averaged a healthy 12.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per 36 minutes last season, meaning he could be in for a major leap in production if he lands a spot in the starting five. The loss of Durant and the lengthy absence of Klay Thompson will leave a big hole to fill on offense, and McKinnie makes for a deep-league flier as a result. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio

McKinnie was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Elisa Bryant and Alfonzo McKinnie, Sr in 1992. He attended and played basketball at Chicago's Curie Metropolitan High School for his first two years of high school. McKinnie then played his final season at Marshall Metropolitan High School, averaging 11.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game to garner All-Red West Conference honors. In 2016, he won a silver medal with USA Basketball at the FIBA 3x3 World Championship in Guangzhou, China. Learn more about McKinnie by following him on Twitter (@_Alvo_) and Instagram (@_alvo_).

College/International Summary

McKinnie toiled for four seasons in small conferences in the Midwest as a defensive specialist. The 6-foot-7 forward initially played for Eastern Illinois. He started five games as a freshman and averaged 3.6 points and 3.6 rebounds. The forward joined the Panthers' starting lineup as a sophomore and provided 10.2 points and 7.0 rebounds. He decided to transfer after his sophomore season and took his talents to UW-Green Bay. While sitting out the 2012-13 season, McKinnie tore his MCL. He appeared in only nine games off the bench in 2013-14 and tore his MCL again, eventually having it removed. The Chicago native started 20 games as a redshirt senior and put up 8.0 points and 5.3 rebounds for a team that went 12-4 in the Horizon League.

Gets 20 minutes in return
FCleveland Cavaliers
March 8, 2020
McKinnie (heel) played 20 minutes off the bench in Saturday's 104-102 loss to the Nuggets, finishing with eight points (4-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt), three rebounds and one steal.
ANALYSIS
McKinnie played for the first time in the second half after he had been sidelined since the Cavaliers' final game before the All-Star break while contending with plantar fasciitis. It's worth noting that the Cavaliers were without six players due to injury for the contest, so McKinnie could fade into a smaller role once the likes of Andre Drummond (calf), Darius Garland (groin) and Kevin Porter (concussion) are all back in action.

2019

McKinnie played 40 games for the Cavaliers during the 2019-20 season. He averaged 4.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 14.8 minutes. He shot 42.7 percent from the field, 21.5 percent from three and 71.0 percent from the free-throw line. McKinnie set a new single-game career high with three steals Nov. 20 against the Heat. He repeated the feat Jan. 9 against the Pistons. McKinnie's other single-game season highs stood at 15 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one block. He recorded his one double-double Jan. 17 against the Grizzlies. McKinnie posted 12 points (6-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 10 rebounds, two assists and one block. In the 14 games that McKinnie saw at least 20 minutes, he averaged 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds. Per 36 minutes, McKinnie averaged 11.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals.

2018

Moving from Toronto to Golden State, McKinnie saw his numbers rise across the board in his first season with the Warriors. He immediately served as a valuable reserve option for Golden State throughout the 2018-19 season and production quickly followed. Over the course of the first 16 games of the season, McKinnie averaged 6.3 points and 3.8 rebounds over 16 minutes per contest. McKinnie scored in double figures on three separate occasions during that time frame, including a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double in a win over the Bulls on Oct. 29. During a four-game stretch from Nov. 2 to Nov. 10, McKinnie averaged a whopping 26 minutes per night. A foot injury cost McKinnie nine games worth of action from late November to early December, but he didn't miss a beat upon his return. In his first five contests following the setback, McKinnie posted 6.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game. Having earned the trust of coach Steve Kerr, McKinnie saw playing time in all 22 of Golden State's postseason contests. That included a 12-point effort in a two-point win to help close out Portland in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. Overall, per 36 minutes last season, McKinnie averaged an impressive 12.1 points and 8.9 rebounds.

2017

McKinnie signed with the Raptors prior to the 2017-2018 campaign. He was shuttled back and forth between the G-League and the NBA, but he appeared in 14 games for the Raptors during the regular season. Essentially a 25-year-old rookie, McKinnie played 3.8 minutes per contest. He averaged 1.5 points and 0.5 rebounds per game, but he shot 53.3 percent from the floor. He scored a season-high nine points at Denver on Nov. 1. He also tallied two rebounds and one block in nine minutes played in that contest, arguably his best game of the season. McKinnie collected two points, one rebound and one assist at Atlanta on Nov. 25. He registered one steal against the Brooklyn Nets on Dec. 15.
